Love the emotion you got on your figure. Great job on the foreshortening and shading just all in all a great symbolic piece.

Hi there! I'm here on behalf of #Traditional-Artists to ensure you get all the feedback this piece recieved during our last Critique Night!
I hope it is helpful and you can use it for your future work! By ~MissMurderFish :
"Absolutely wonderful perspective! I love how it looks like she is actually crawling towards the viewer. I also really like the shading and lighting. One thing that seems a little weird is the way the feather is positioned, and the way the wind seems to be blowing. It seems like if she just missed catching the feather with her right arm (as it looks like she has), then it would be on the other side of her hand, going along with the wind. Also, the big black splotch underneath the hand that isn't trying to catch the feather is not very well defined, and looks mushy. If you defined it a little more and made it a rock i think that would be wonderful. I really like the wings, too. I think that the one we see more of could be a bit darker on the underside, but not by very much. The background ties in nicely. Good job overall!" By *LeahJay :
"First off, I enjoy the wings and feathers the most. They are pleasant to look at, against that blue sky, and with some feathers rendered with more detail than others. They also have a nice flow, and lend strength to the whole composition which is also quite strong. The values are extremely good, and the hair has a good directional movement too which I really enjoy looking at. Two things jump out at me: First the thumb closest to her body needs reworking - it's too long and thin. In general that hand is weaker than the hand in the forefront, so I suspect you used a good photo for the good hand and are missing reference for the other one. What I do is take photos of my own hand in the same position and then reference it, you could try it. Another thing is the soil beneath her needs more detail as it's closer, and less as it fades into the distance. Specifically, the soil around her front hand could have more grit and maybe a few pebbles, whereas your "brushy" scumbling technique is fine for back behind her. It's a great picture and an arresting concept!" By =ziinyu :
"A lot of interesting things happening on this one. I think my primary advice for the concept of this is just to take the directions you were going and push them even further. I love the tonality on her shoulder and supporting arm, as well as the aesthetic in those light strands of her hair. Take that style and push it into the rest of the image. The sky is beautiful, but could use some further accent. The theme of this piece is "Fallen" emphasize this by implying the fall; pull the composition upward further for the verticality. The shape composition is great, but if you want to bring some definite interest into the piece, change the value composition up a bit. Is the lost feather, or the raised wings more important (great quality to those wings by the way - though they could use the same harsh shading as seen in the figure)? Bring this out through the balance of your values. The ground is pretty indistinct compared to everything else, and definitely the weak point of the image. The cast shadows are almost too defined, creating a cartoon like quality to their sources. Ground your subject a little more accurately by getting a figure/ground relationship going that matches the environment. In no way would that softened lighting create those shadows. Also some interaction with the earth itself, expecially with the hand grasping the ground, would be helpful. (Is she reaching for the feather? If so, go with your already extreme perspective, and put the feather even further in the foreground, in front of the grasping hand.) For the figure itself, she's pretty good, and her emotion is definitely believable. Some reference could be used for that hand though, we lose the wedge quality of the palm, all of the fingers meet in a flat plane. Anyway, a very nice piece, it in a great direction, next time just really push it past the bounds of your concept."

AWESOME. I love how her posture is both a crawl and a climb--the dichotomy of suffering and ascension--and her expression is pain and effort but also rage and determination.
There's loads of fallen-angel art here on DA, but being fallen isn't about flailing around prettily and angsting--it's about the desperate struggle to get back what you lost. This picture is honest and beautiful.
