Description
UPDATE: Changed Chara and Flowey's designs, along with some loreUPDATE 2: Gave Asgore some fuzz on his cloak
UPDATE 3: fuzz gone and new logo pog
quick context:
this was the first AU i ever made, and it wasn't the best, but it had potential
later on this cool guy called slick silver (he's really cool) made his own version
and out of no intention of his, i basically gave up on ever doing this AU again bc what he had made kind of reached that potential
but then a month or so ago i decided to finally try again, using my original ideas, a few of his which i vaguely remembered, and a handful of new ones
Lore is pretty simple so i'll just write it here
Sometime before humankind wins the war and seals the monsters with the barrier, the humans realize that the barrier can be broken. As such, they take an extra precaution in the form of Ipnillies, flowers made of magic that produce a sleeping gas and feed off of magic to grow extremely fast. After monsterkind is sealed, they quickly realize the deadliness of the Ipnillies, and evacuate what would eventually become the ruins to escape. Ipnillies would continue to grow through the underground, creeping into the corners of monster society and claiming more victims. A bevvy of temporary methods to kill the ipnillies would soon follow, all of which could only slow the inevitable.
One day, Chara fell into the underground, straight into the ipnillie-lined ruins. Their DETERMINATION miraculously kept them in a barely alive and wakeful state, managing to get out of the ruins before finally giving out. They were soon taken in by the Dreemurrs, terribly ill and bed-ridden. They could only live a few more months, and in that time, they slowly befriended Asriel, who visited them frequently. Knowing that their end was nigh, they made a plan for Asriel to take their SOUL, go to the surface, and collect the SOULs necessary to free monsterkind from their personal deathbed. It went about as well as you all know it did. Asriel eventually made it back into the underground, dusting with Chara's corpse in their arms.
ok now characters
Our protagonist is Sirk, an edgy teen who was told he was useless by his peers and decided to go make himself useful and finish off all the monsters left in the underground. He eventually learns that that probably isn't such a good idea, realizing how horrible monsterkind has it. He's mean, but truthful. He also enjoys working by himself when possible. His weapon of choice is a Butterfly Knife. Nobody knows how or where he got it, but he's pretty good at using it.
The flower on Chara's head actually began spreading, creating a small patch of golden flowers with traces of Asriel's dust. It was these golden flowers from which Flowey was born, through DT experiments on said flowers. Since a lot more people have been corrupted by the Ipnillies, his freedom of choice became more limited, and he quickly became bored. It is because of this boredom that Flowey actually helps Sirk (up to some point), due to not having anyone new for a long time. He is, however, still flowey, and eventually turns on Sirk.
Toriel, in grief over the deaths of the two children, disappeared into the ruins, using the Ipnillies to live in sleepy bliss, to forget all of her pain. She has been reduced to a slightly mobile garden for the Ipnillies, sulking around the ruins and sleeping while the Ipnillies take further hold of her and the ruins around her.
Napstablook saw everyone else lying on the floor, and took to doing it themselves. They did this so much, that they eventually became one with their "garbage plane". They have a new sense of slight confidence with this new look, but is generally still the Napsta we know and love.
Being rather lazy already, Sans was somewhat easier to get a hold of for the Ipnillies. Sans insists he's ok, but there is most certainly something up with him. While there are no flowers growing on his body, there are some growing INSIDE his body, deep in his skull, poisoning his brain.Β
also yknow how in lumpy mario land there's that shot of flowers growing out of mario's eyes
yeah sans does that in genocide instead of his "Bad Time" eye
Papyrus sort of has the opposite situation. Being one of only two monsters to not really sleep (and in his case not really need to), he has obtained the role of "Plant-Killer Papyrus". Equipped with a Liquid Nitrogen sprayer, his fends the town of Snowdin off from the ever-growing Ipnillies. However, being built by an Ipnillie-bound Alphys, the spayer is a bit shoddy, and can break at times.
Undyne is the other monster who does not sleep, but more out of a "who needs it?" attitude. She's a lot ruder and crankier than in UT because of this, and tires much easier. Her armor was built to seal and protect her from the somewhat infested Waterfall. It's a lot slimmer and more lightweight than the original armor, but her tiredness makes up for that.
In the past, Alphys used DT (don't ask where it's from i haven't figured out yet) on monsters to see if they could hold up better in ipnillie-ridden places. This went about as well as expected. To remedy this, she pulled a Toriel and used the ipnillies to sleep her pains away. Her usage was more controlled at first, but quickly spiraled out of control. Worse still, she has frequent Nightmares about what she did, so even under their influence, she is not blissful. All of her creations are usually unfinished, and if not, buggy and broken.
Mettaton still has his TV show, but in a slightly more limited form, due to only being a ghost. Often, they will seek to possess any items they can use, to see if anything can match the body they so seek. This goes nowhere, and they are forced to finally bring out their unfinished box form (which would be equivalent to UT's EX form). He's a little more shy and nervous without his body, but manages ok without it.
With both of his children dead, his wife gone, and his kingdom slowly being consumed by virus flowers, Asgore has lost hope. He, like many, is exhausted, but for him, it's mentally, not physically. He's more secluded, almost depressed, and feels immense regret over things he had no control over, not even wearing his armor and crown out of shame. The world has beaten him down, and he lays there, weeping.
Asriel often cared quite deeply for Chara, realizing what they had to go through and how they ended up. He visited them every day, and the two grew a close bond together. Asriel was always kind, but often found it hard to put what he was thinking into words. Quite often did he sleepwalk and dream, always curious as to how or why such things happened, and if they ever meant anything. Like in Undertale, he greatly enjoyed the starry skies of the surface, mesmerized by them.
Chara still held a hatred for humans, especially after almost getting killed by their own magical poison flowers. Stuck in bed, they really couldn't do much, only enlighten those curious of the surface (especially Asriel) about its features. They generally felt worn down and were a little quiet at times. The pajamas they wore were given to them by the Dreemurrs, and were not what they were originally wearing. The buttercup, however, was.
if you wanna make sub-AUs of this au, or add this AU to existing AUs, go right ahead! I wanna see them !
