Description
This is a basic reflected color tutorial. It's done in colored pencil but the principles apply to other media as well. Okay, colored pencil isn't my strong point and my pencils are not the best...and I had to fight with the scanner over this, so the color and lines are a bit harsh...but that's okay because it shows what I'm doing better. Note: Always use colors from your background as the reflected light.Related content

Thanks! I sketched him on the beach; he was jumping up and stealing bread that we were throwing to the seagulls.

Stop whining and try some, it's fun not scary. If you don't have Photoshop I suggest you draw a simple outline of...a man's face or something, since I see you like to draw characters. Do no shading on it, just the lines. Now you can scan and print several copies of it or have it copied at the printing shop. Then pretend you're three years old, totally unconcerned with any 'laws of art' and COLOR it. Pick your favorite color, pick a weird color, mix colors...play around with it, not worrying what it will turn out like. Color it again in a different color. Color it in orange and do the shading in blue...yellow with shading in purple. Be a kid, have fun and fall in love with the colors...doesn't matter if it's pencil or crayola crayons. When you've stopped being afraid to use the colors you can look up tutorials on DA. You CAN learn to use color...but you have to try or you won't. It's true that not every artist Likes to use colors...there are those who do only black and white. So if you really hate doing colors there's no rule saying you have to. Either way theres no reason to mope about it...either try to learn or say, 'pooh, I don't like drawing in color'. No more sad faces
