Description Charcoal, mostly.

I laid down a bunch of charcoal and smoothed it out with a felt. Then I used a pink pearl and kneaded eraser to bring out the wave. I used a china white pencil to add some highlights, but when I applied the fixative they faded into the drawing .

I think I like this technique, but next time I try it I'm going to try it with a lighter base. I also want to try applying the charcoal with a chamois.

I've found that cotton balls and Q-tips work better than felt for blending either graphite or charcoal. I don't use fixative to avoid possible complications like you describe, but you of course have to be very careful about handling the drawings.

Thanks for the tips. What I'm finding is that different things blend differently. Felt seems to create a grainy texture, while a chamois seems really smooth. I'll have to play with q-tips and cotton.

a very cool drawing... i'd rather call you wave master (even if it's corny) than wave freak

That's really good. I've always wondered how you are supposed to draw waves... lol

thanks.

I'm not sure there is a "right" way, but it works for me.
