Description On August 21st (2017 if you're reading this later), an eclipse will be visible in North America, and in some places it will be a total eclipse. Knowing how to safely observe an eclipse is definitely something you want to learn! I won't pretend to be an expert, but I do know there are some simple ways that can keep your eyes safe. I like that you are viewing my art, and I'd like to make sure you can keep doing so. If you want to view the eclipse, make sure you do it safely!

I felt like making a little comic as a bit of a reminder, so this is what I came up with.

So you don't have to manually type in the links below the comic, here they are:

You can watch the eclipse livestreamed at the NASA website:

www.nasa.gov/eclipselive

To learn more about safe eclipse viewing, go to the American Astronomical Society website:

eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety/saf…

And finally if you'd like to make a pinhole camera, we turn to NASA again:

Thanks! I do need to practice comics, so this was a handy opportunity.

After stupid people view the eclipse without safety vision gear and go blind, the TRIFFIDS will come to eat them.Β

Damn, I should learn how to fly... Or at least how to sail a boat.

Educational content with cute girls is always the best kind.

Too true.Β  Makes it easier to pay attention too, and visual aids in general are faster to absorb.Β  I wonder if the solar eclipse has a cute girl mascot already.

I bet it does in Japan. They love anthropomorphising stuff as cute girls.

I hope they do, but as the eclipse isn't going over Japan, I'm not sure.Β  Give me some time, and I'll see if I can think something up (if just only for myself).

There is an actual ISO standard for "solar glasses". But in typical fashion, scammers have taken the opportunity to print fake/counterfeit standardΒ  certifications. In a quick test, no light dimmer than the sun should be able to be seen through the filter.

Otherwise, better safe than forever sorry. There are lots of ways to make a pinhole camera. And this is likely to be one the most recorded solar events in history. Take full advantage.

I saw some really neat pinhole cameras online, but when it came down to drawing something, I realized I didn't have time to do more than one page. So, simplest solution it was!
