Another Damariscotta horseshoe crab. This rather colorful fellow was meandering along the water's edge, sporting a forest of algae and sea lettuce on its opisthosoma.

Oh, you know... there are all these mythologies with turtles or tortoises so huge that actual forests made of trees grow on their backs, there seem to be a few religions out there where the whole world is a particularly enormous turtle, the speculative evolution community seems to like designing immense algae-covered sea turtles with whole ecosystems living on them, Terry Pratchett... your post made me picture an island-sized horseshoe crab with trees growing on it, or a crab with an entire world on its back.
The joke might have been funnier inside my head.
