Ahh, no don't use black or grey or things without color when shading things that are in color, like this! It leeches out everything and makes it look dull and lifeless. Try using colors on filter layers to shade, such as blue and purple, or another color depending on the color palettes of the drawing.

It says later on that you use black along with the purple, so it sort of leeches at the edges. The purple's a good idea, just not the black.

ohhh I out the black under the layer with the colour so that the colour part of the shading tints the black just to make it a darker version of whatever is above it heh except for one area where I noticed that I had used just black.... which kind of bothers me, I'll probably fix it at some point...

Hmm a better idea would just be to use a darker color. Like if you ever look at stuff just shaded with black/grey overlays, it looks really bad. CoughlikeTomPreston'sworksometimesCough.

hahaha yeah I know what you mean! I used to do that with a lot of my older works, but nowadays I tend to use purple when Im too lazy to actually find a colour that goes well with it XD

when you use black to shade, it kind of leeches away from the rest of the colour, makes it dull (i mean unless youre working in black and white of course)
but I hope this makes sense now, I dont know how to explain it any further
also, watch R-wolfe shes fucking amazing.
