Description
Ok, so this is what I mostly do at work when I don't make wedding bands.Aside from my own commissions, weird stuff and wondrous ideas I mostly get to mend, polish and size-change people's jewelry.
For instance, this battered white gold solitaire ring came in the other day and it's my job to make it look as good as new!
(Sometimes I wish people could be more gentle with their jewelry. Some days I feel like I run an emergency room for bashed-up rings... )

wow, on that first photo it looked terrible -all bumpous and stuff And like a brand new one on the end
Great job! Also- probably a silly question (as I know NOTHING of silver/gold jewellery) but how do they stick the stone to the base so it does not fall off? Is it some high-heat method or special adhesive or is it just pushed in and stuck? Because with all that rubbing and polishing that stone to still sits there peacefully, which seems surprising to me

Wow that is a huge improvment! I'm maddened by my own ring. Bought it last summer in Kilarney, Silver and Labradorite. And within months the band had snapped on both sides :/

Argh, sucks when that happens! Also, that kind of stone needs to be removed before mending the band, or else it will most certainly crack.. There is cooling paste for such occasions, but I doubt it would be enough when the solder seams is that close to the stone...

I heading out to Turkey in a few weeks, so I'm hoping that I can get the stone reset altogether. I think the old setting and band are a lost cause to be honest, which is a real pity, I was very attached to it. The man I bought it from was hailing it as "a ring that will last you forever"....he had a very limited very of forever I think!

Well, that white gold alloy tend to mbe quite soft. I would love to see the expression on the customers face when she gets it, it's a whole new ring. I think it's been worn for six years...

I think that the fact that it's gold is a factor as gold is a soft metal but If that was my ring there's no way I'd scratch and dent it that extremely!

I feel your pain there, sister... That's been my everyday job since september last year. I fix up all the jewelleries my boss buys from customers, get the in shape and make them worth selling in the store. Those poor rings expecially...
Nice job you've done with this one. I don't think I've ever seen a solitaire ring with that shape before...

*chuckle* Yeah.. I've been doing it through my two years of apprenticeship and then since last September when I became self-employed as well! Hah (cool, same timeline! )
To be humble, I sometimes feel like they took Da Vinci and set him to paint white walls... (yes. i just compared myself to Da Vinci. Heh.
)
It was a very pretty ring and it was so beaten up I had to ask the store if it was supposed to have a hammered finish or if it really was -that- bad... XD
I also find it amusing - the cleaner the ring, the dirtier the fingers...

Haha, then hello Leonardo!
It's amazing how people treat their rings... That one really looked as it was supposed to be hammered like that. I've gotten alot of rings like that as well, and it's so sad!

I wish it did. Heh.
Some people go become entrrepreneurs because they have an idea that can make them rich. Others don't mind being poor, as long as they get to do what they love.
I seem to be stuck in a situation where I work my hands to the bone, don't get to do much of the creative bit OR get any money for it. I am doing something wrong here. >.<

I use it as mu work surface to hold against for support.
I use various files and sanding papers down to a grit so fine it's almost like suede, then I go for revolving polishing wheels and fine wax.
