Like the moss texture on the shell, makes it very earth-like.
I'm actually surprised that it doesn't have a dragon snake for a tail in this one.

Genbu is a mythical creature, not just a fantasy creation, and is usually depicted with a white snake as a tail.

I know the lore behind Genbu. I guess I just didn't know the snake part.

Genbu normally is a Tortoise with a Snake.

Hergman In reply to MugenSeiRyuu [2013-09-10 21:32:58 +0000 UTC]
that does remind me of things
i seem to vaguely remember that snake yet the few other times ive seen a genbu, they all downplayed the snake, let alone remove it entirely

MugenSeiRyuu In reply to Hergman [2013-09-10 21:44:25 +0000 UTC]
Yes.
The Digimon based on Genbu, Xuanwumon actually has a clever twist: Instead of a snake, he has a second head, which resembles a snake's head (how much depends on the artist).

Hergman In reply to MugenSeiRyuu [2013-09-10 23:54:06 +0000 UTC]
its a bit hard to tell if one head is different from another. but like you said, it depend on the artist

lol not sure if it was intentional or not but the rock formations on the left and right of him, a couple of them look like they have little faces if you look close enough.

No, Genbu. Besides that, there are older Tortoises with plants on thier back then that one. For example Xuanwumon, who is based on Genbu.

Right, right. When I saw this picture, it reminded me of Torterra lol.
Really neat to see that there are different tortoises with that kind of shell.

The art is amazing, but I have one problem being a mythology major. Genbu's element is water not wood, Seiryuu's is wood. I am not sure if you are going with the actual mythos of the four great spirits. If you arent then alright thenΒ
π: 0 β©: 1
ValestyCross In reply to Naes-Igasu [2013-09-10 06:08:45 +0000 UTC]
I could have sworn it wasΒ
Seiryuu = water = Dragon
Beyaku = air = Tiger
Genbu = wood = turtle dragon
Suzaku = Fire= phoenix
and then the yellow dragon, not sure what element he represents
