Thank you very much!
I have, actually. But I was never sure if I could guarantee qualified art in time to justify being paid for it.
Why do you ask?

No prob.
Just curious. In my opinion, your art looks good enough for you to charge commission.

You're welcome, and keep up the great work.
And they said that Star Trek: Deep Space Nine didn't influence anybody and had no fandom, and was responsible for the death of the Star Trek franchise on TV-judging by this art, what do the naysayers know?

Pfft, they said what now!? But I've also heard Voyager was a bad series, and that later ENT flopped catastrophically...

Why, thank you! *_*
And I agree, there's never enough DS9 fan art, especially of Cardassians~!
Their story, hm. It's the typical forbidden love of two enemies, set during the Occupation of Bajor.
Dalin Torid is a somewhat depressed Cardassian soldier who, due to a few misadventures, ends up in some minor barracks in the Kendra Valley. He eventually picks one of the locals as his comfort woman. This girl, Duna Ryrea, has ambitions of her own; She wants to help her people by using her new position and influence as a comfort woman.
Eventually they will help each other: She by rekindling his spirits and helping him with promotions, and he by giving her political power as long as whatever she does will not threaten or harm Cardassia in any way.
I guess that eventually she'll be amongst the people getting banished from Bajor as collaborators.

Sad but cool....Makes me hope they get a happy ending... Thought it seems Cardassians and by extension Bajorans rarely do. In Canon any way

WhirlwindVio In reply to herbsandlemons [2014-12-31 14:08:09 +0000 UTC]
You're right, canonically they don't seem to get happy endings very often. :/
Those two might, actually. Depending on how one defines "happy" XD. And if we decide to be kind or "cool". xP
Thanks for your comments, in any way. They made my days! *_*

Is this the same character I just saw in another artwork with the flowing orange-red robes?
Allthough the situation is a harsh one (being a comfort woman) the posing of your characters looks kind of cute. I very much like the way she crosses her feet.

If you mean the one in On Bajor, years later , then yes. It's the same character, except on my picture she's years younger.
It's true, there is a certain contrast between their cute posing and the harsh situation, isn't there? I hope it doesn't look like I belittle her circumstances. I rather mean to show a stage in their relationship's development that will eventually lead to Ryrea becoming the person one can see in Rise's picture.
Admittedly, I like the way she crosses her feet, too. XD It's supposed to look thoughtlessly relaxed, in contrast to her concentrated face.

Yes, this was the other one. They both showed up on the newest deviations side by side. It was perfect!
No, it does not look like you belittle the situation of the Bajoran slaves. It is an intriguing setting after all. I can not even count how often I was torn between admiring Dukat and hating him in the series.
Are those characters out of fanfiction stories?

WhirlwindVio In reply to Dahkur [2014-11-12 00:41:36 +0000 UTC]
Hah! Perfect, indeed! It's also the same character from on my own "On Bajor" picture you commented on some time ago. XD
Ah, that’s a relief. I agree, I loved how Dukat, and actually all the Cardassians, Bajorans, and the whole topic "occupation" was looked at from so many different angles in DS9. But I also think they missed out on one or two opportunities to shine a light on the very different reasons the Bajoran “collaborators” (that many comfort women apparently are (ill?-)reputed as) could have had. Meru, if I remember correctly, did what she did to support her family. Which is a noble goal, of course. But it was never shown whether or not she actively tried to gain political influence beyond that. That idea, though, was eventually one of the main themes that inspired me to Duna Ryrea’s character.
They are mainly roleplay-characters. But we’ve written a very few short stories about the bunch (consisting of four main characters), too.

Torid and Ryrea! Of course I like it!
The pose, how he's holding her because "she's all mine" and how he's smiling, watching her trying to read Cardassian. XD
And Ryrea looks relaxed and tensed at the same time, or concentrated because she's deciphering the foreign text.
I like the soft colors and shading and the detailed heads! The yellow-red-blue face highlights - test turned out well.
Thanks a lot! ^^

You're welcome! I enjoyed working on this drawing, it was a lot of fun.
Torid and Ryrea~. And no detailed background. XD
Yes! The "She's all mine" comes across! I imagine that she holds and absent mindedly strokes his right hand with hers while reading. I also wonder if him being so close and never letting her subconscious forget that he's in charge adds to her "relaxed stress", while at the same time I think he needs to hold her extra-close because he just granted her a lot of freedom.

... and it's all mine like Ryrea is all Torid's, so much Xan-stuff XD
Well yes, I think sometimes he needs to make a point and show her that she's still all his and he's in command, although he gives her a lot of freedom. He's in command. Not Jesil. She can like Jesil but he's in command 1!!11!!11 XD
You know what I mean. ^^

That would be the Ha'mara . But they're both about fasting. During the Time of Cleansing , though, Bajorans fast for a whole month to abstain from worldly pleasures. Duna Ryrea (deliberately) interpreted it a bit differently, as you can see.

Beautiful shading! And I still love their positioning. Ryrea looks so young in her position, like a friend's little sister. It shows a different dynamic between them than what they show publicly, I think. Torid is growing fond of Ryrea!
And I've said it before, but I love what you do with postures. You show such personality! Even when Torid is out of his armour and relaxed, Ryrea's still the more childlike one (not in terms of maturity, as we know from other RPs, but in her enthusiasm and idealism and vulnerability). Torid by contrast is the older, wiser, "in control" one.

WhirlwindVio In reply to RiseofDarkFire [2014-11-08 04:48:46 +0000 UTC]
Thank you so much! I'm really glad the shading turned out well, seeing how I tried something out there. XD
And I love that their personalities come across. I think the whole learning Cardassian thing supports your interpretation further. I figure Ryrea feels "behind" and inexperienced compared to the actual native speaker, and she learned what she knows of Cardassian growing up, so there's also a childhood memory layer to it.
