Description Just proof that i'm not artless XD I have my tablet back, woot! Yesterday i did the fastest linearting job i've ever done on a piece before I think, rofl. Jumped right in Today though i'm tired and not feeling super, so have a half hour doodle. I'll move this to scarps later...

But yeah, it's autumn. Which means scarf weather. It's my time to shine

No problem! Agreed!

And thanks! My tablet is being glitchy but it may just be my laptop or program that I use..... I'm cheep and don't want to pay for one! (Although I do know that it would be a good investment.... *le sigh*)

Oh that's never fun...try un-installing and re-installing the driver. Sometimes that can help I've found If not, it may be worth looking into a new tablet anyways. Even if you don't get one right away, you'll know what you want versus what you need versus what you can afford for when you do need one ^^

Thanks for that!! And I would get a new tablet, but 1- No job at the present time 2- Saving up for grad. trip... (Italy and Greece) So I will definitely look into it!

Ah, yeah in that case the tablet should probably wait In a worst case scenario you can go for a cheaper tablet, like a monoprice, just so you have one that functions without shelling out a ton of cash. Or just doodle traditionally, it's cheaper XD

Whisperwings In reply to RainbowDaughter [2013-10-09 17:55:46 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I wish I could tell you there was a magical secret so that you could do it too, but it's literally just practice Constant drawing and constant practice and not being afraid to use references!

RainbowDaughter In reply to Whisperwings [2013-10-09 17:59:42 +0000 UTC]

i use references but i generally use them to draw animals. with people i just wing it! i'm asking my family for one of those weird mannequin doll things used for getting arm positions etc correct so my people might not look so much like strange things with 360 degree movement in their arms!

I love loose sketchy artwork like this. These flowing lines make your work alive and create movement. You can practically feel the wind whipping through the character's hair and scarf. You've done a great job on this one.

Speaking of great jobs, I've started coloring your Halloween line art piece. I'm pretty impressed with it myself. My only Achilles' Heel is going to be the shading and providing an appropriate background for it. It's not so much the shading technique, but how the light touches the subject that's the challenge. I don't suppose you can point me to any suggestions?

Whisperwings In reply to PeterSFay [2013-10-09 04:10:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks so much!! I really do love these pieces when they're still sketchy...but at a certain point it feels like dA becomes a gallery only for my finished work... I might post more sketches occasionally and move them to scraps, just because I really do like them a lot sometimes ^^

Well, I suppose it depends on if the coloring is digital or traditional... either way, just pick a light source and remember where it is. With the Halloween pic, you have a guide, since you can see where the reflections in her hair and eyes are already, so the light source is in the top right area. But it's also a little in front of her, not directly to the side. So light reflections won't be directly on the edges of things, but a little in front of them I always leave a little line of unshaded color and maybe a bit of shading between a reflection and the "edge" of the drawn, rounded object to make it look more 3d... I dunno if that helps you any or if you knew all that stuff already, rofl.
