As is so often the case with long exposure shots of city highways, we are first struck by the contrast, the powerful merging of light and darkness that consumes the night. Broadly, the lines of the street cars draw us through the photograph from left to right, and it is only afterward that we notice the cars below. Moving at variable speeds, some are visible, while others leave behind a blinking trail of light like the dotted lines in Family Circus. The comparative speeds of the cars are made visible to us.

Not the most original subject matter, but very nicely composed. I really enjoy looking at this photograph.
