The timing was just right with the sun setting to get that effect in the sky, kinda lucky! But seriously, if you know a scene which is photogenic and you go there at sunset you're bound to come up with something good.

The background has depth too because of the colours from the sunset. But ultimately you're right in the way that it stands out so much.
