Description
Some of you may remember my first design for a barn owl mask. I decided to try remaking it, but with a smaller head. I like this smaller version a bit better. This mask is hand-carved and shaped from 7 oz leather, and painted with acrylics.Just in time for Halloween, this mask is available in my Etsy shop - [link] Sold! Your bird masks and leather feathers make me weep... because I doubt I will ever be this good at realistic painting.

I love your barn owl masks. My favorite part is the fuzzy feathers at the top of the beak. You do a really great job at making it look realistic.

That is REALLY coo-hoo-hool! (And yeah, I know that barn owls screech, they don't hoot...meh. I'm sticking to my lame owl joke)
I think that the only way you could make this better is putting a feather texture into the material (not sure how you'd do it with leather...), or having a textured overlay.

Heehee, you might be disappointed then to know that barn owls don't 'hoot' at all, but rather shriek like a banshee! [link] I personally don't like to overload the owl masks with feather texture, though the more decorative bird masks often I'll tool each individual feather.

I know. I've heard barn owls get vocal. Still sticking with my lame and generic owl joke. (As a random sidenote, there's a Great Horned that lives in the woods behind my house)
