I love ferns. I've always loved ferns. Heaven for me would be a forest of ferns and white birch trees. Add a bit of artist's block, a sketchpad, and a pencil and I come up with...a fern angel?Well, this it turned into this, which I will be painting with watercolor. It's about 9 X 10 inches on illustration board.

I can't understand how people think ferns are plain or ugly....I think they're simply gorgeous!

funnyXD I was just looking at ferns the other day and got the idea to include them in the Summer Angel piece. I think thoughts are leaking over from the brain half! I really like the look of this so far, especially the interesting clothing that's blending into the forest itself and the ferns in her hair. Sometimes just drawing a combination of the things you love can really help knock you out of a block.

Oh, feathers! May I be so bold and ask how you do the feathers with watercolors?

That's a bit of a difficult question to answer, but I paint them just as I would anything else in watercolor - light washes first, then gradually build up color and value. For these specific feathers, I'm going to make them fern-like, so they won't be like my typical feathers.

Just wondering since I will have to color some feathers with watercolor... soon 
I probably have too much respect towards what a feather is, so I don't really see what it LOOKS like... *tries to analyze self*
