Description Why do I let this keep happening?
Why do I keep trying to fill this void left inside me?
Why do I keep waking up expecting you to be the one lying next to me?
Even though I know you're no longer there...

A drawing featuring my recent jackal character, Blaise. She's not male, don't mistake her for one please.

I'm extremely pleased with how this work turned out. I wasn't sure I was even going to finish it, but I'm glad I did. This drawing is special because it represents a few things about Blaise's character and her past.

I should mention for those who don't know, that Blaise does not represent "me". She's a side character of mine; but she's still very important to me.

I wrote a short story to explain a bit about this drawing, if you wish to read it below. I'm not the greatest writer, but you'll get the idea.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

It was several hours past sunset as Blaise sat on a tall, rather uncomfortable stool at the local gay club. She sat by the bar, and as usual on every Friday night, was already feeling a little tipsy. She didn't enjoy drinking, but she hated what she intended to do there, and drinking was the only thing that silenced the voice of her conscience.

Blaise stared at the freshly emptied glass in her hand. She rolled it around with her fingers absentmindedly, debating whether or not she wanted to risk having another. She tapped her black boots against the rungs of her bar stool nervously. No... She'd had enough. She did not want to lose control of herself. It never made this any easier anyway. It was always the same damn thing.

She set her glass down on the bar and turned toward the club's dance floor. Her eyes scanned across the room, looking at the dozens of furries there - most moving their bodies against each other to the beat of the trance music, others hidden in the dark corners of the club kissing. As Blaise's eyes roamed the area, they caught on a glimpse of dark violet fur. A leopard girl, around her same age, sitting in a booth by herself. Blaise stood up from the stool and casually made her way across the floor. The leopard was watching the dancers with her amber eyes, unaware that Blaise was making her way toward the booth. Blaise soon stood in front of the table and leaned against it.

"Mind if I join you?" Blaise asked, just loudly enough to be heard over the music.

The leopard turned her attention to Blaise, meeting her icy blue eyes. She glanced over the jackal, noting her shiny silver ear piercings and the close-fitting black top she wore. She met Blaise's eyes again and smiled.

"Be my guest," she replied, and Blaise slid into the seat across from her.

"Thank you," she said, returning a charming smile. "I'm Blaise."

"Victoria," the leopard responded.

"Pretty name for a pretty girl," the jackal said with a smirk. Victoria laughed, and leaned slightly forward over the table, closer to Blaise so she could speak more quietly.

"So, tell me, jackal - what is it you came all the way over here for?"

Blaise's expression softened for only a second before she leaned forward to whisper back.

"Truth be told, I'm terrified of spending my nights alone," she said, Victoria's ear close enough to lick if she were to reach out her tongue. The leopard smelled lovely, like lavender.

Victoria leaned back slightly to look into Blaise's eyes once more. Blaise smiled her flirtatious smile as she waited for the leopard's answer.

This was how it always went.

Blaise was not a liar. She did not take partners under false pretenses. When someone was unwilling to be with her, she simply moved on.

As they gazed at each other, there was no misunderstanding between them.

Finally, Victoria spoke.

"We can go back to my apartment."

Without another word, Blaise grasped Victoria's hand, and they started making their way out of the club.

Once outside, Blaise pulled Victoria close, wrapped an arm around her, and kissed her deeply. Victoria kissed back, feeling along the sides of Blaise's shirt.

Pausing to take a breath, Blaise whispered, "You sure about this?"

"I'm sure," Victoria purred. "Come on, we can take my car."

Blaise was at Victoria's apartment. She was lying on her bed staring at the ceiling, partially under the crimson bed sheet. Victoria was already asleep next to her.

It had been a good night. Victoria was as passionate as she was beautiful. Blaise usually preferred to stay with other canines, but this leopard had been a wonderful exception.

Blaise looked over at her. Victoria was lying on her side facing away from Blaise, her torso rising and falling with her breathing as she slept. She was still unclothed, just as Blaise was, and the bed sheet had fallen off her hips. Blaise could see the gentle curve of her body, the violet fur and dark spots smooth against her form. Her blue-tinted hair spilled around her head on the pillow, and her ear and tail both twitched slightly as a result of whatever dream she was experiencing.

Yes, it was a fine night. But as always, it would not last. Blaise knew it from before she even spotted Victoria from across the room. It could not last. Because no matter how hard she tried to replace it, someone else had stolen her heart away and left her feeling empty. She would never love anyone else. Everything she did was just a miserable attempt to fill the void that was left in her soul when her love wasn't there anymore.

Blaise raised herself up to lean on her arm so that she could see the leopard's face. She gently reached out a paw and stroked the soft fur on Victoria's side.

"I'm sorry," Blaise whispered, not loudly enough to wake Victoria.

Even worse than the emptiness she felt was this feeling that she knew she had failed to fill that emptiness yet again. She felt like dirt, but she didn't believe she had any other choice.

Without a sound, Blaise got dressed, and left.

From what I gathered, Blaise is looking for more than just a one night stand companion, but no matter how hard she tries, it always ends up like that and she feels terrible that she can't fill the void with a fulfilling relationship? She also feels like she did something bad to the other girl because of that?

It's a beautiful image, I'm surprised I'm the first commenter. This definitely needs more than just me. Great work on the colors and shading.

Thank you. ^_^

You're close with your summary. Blaise once had a fulfilling relationship to fill that void, but circumstances caused her to lose that at some point down the road. Blaise has been trying to repair that hole ever since.

There's a long story that goes along with Blaise, I hope to write it out in comic form someday.
