This is interesting. We have similar formations in the Southwest region of the US.

Perhaps this would be more mysterious if you crop out the right 1/3, and a bit off the top and bottom of the image? Then it would not be immediately obvious that this is a sandstone, and you can let the viewer's imagination run wild...
