Description
me again.the meaning behind my regalias colors as per oji-cree(ojibwe/cree)plains tradition;black-the unknown, mystical aspect of nature.blue-wide open big sky of the prairies.yellow-the sun.orange-fire,willingness to go ones own way.white-cold,snow.purity and the ability to see far into the distance as the eagles can.why do we wear bustles?(feathers on our backs??)we wear the feathers to honour the eagles who donated their feathers to us when they fall out of the sky naturally.we wear them to honour the spirits and mother earth.
why do we dance?when we dance its like we massage mother earth with our feet-making her feel good and give thanks for all she has givin us(everything!!!)now you know!

No offense but this makes you look kinda wholesome as in considerate and good. It's a pretty good outfit. I like the colors and the thought put into it. Do you still sew or do you just do drawing now?

Oh Jackie I have another question. Is the ribbon that connects to the fan thing around your neck tight? Is the symbol like your symbol icon thing or just the thing that represents the Cree? What do the feet bells mean? Are those pony beads and are they really called pony beads because of the Plains lads thing?
Edit: More questions... How'd you get two symmetrical shoulder plates? Do they just sell em or did you create them yourself? How did you acquire the eagle feathers? Please don't tell me you snatched the bird out of the sky and killed it because that's not funny, and that's probably animal cruelty. Why do pow wows look like that? Most of the time when I envision pow wows it's just like a field. Do you like just have Pow wow buildings like how the Chickasaw Cultural Center exists? Who took this picture? Was this also taken back in 1995?

That is a lot of questions-whew!
LOL!!!o.k-here goes....
Not tight but sits firmly-remember,you have to dance with this stuff on so you need movement!
The look is non-specific and more personal tastes in the general plains tribes traditions.
dancing with bells on our feet is a two fold meaning-the first is to scare away all the bad spirits and the second is to invite all the good ones in.
Pony beads are a nickname given to those particular sized beads because they would be used to decorate horses with-so the name stuck.
I made the plates that way(I like symmetry!lol)
I made them myself from light thin wood covered in leather then painted with arm straps to attatch to the upper arm area.
Eagle feathers are found naturally in nature or traded-you never kill for eagle feathers.(allthough there is an eagle dance and in the past feathers were procured through a specialized trap.I do not think that is in practice anymore since eagles are endangerd in some areas.
Pow wows have many different looks and sizes depending on where you are, number of dancers,if it is indoors or outdoors, etc.
The picture was taken by a friend right before a show.
whew-hope that covered it!lol

Oh no I'm sorry I have one more question but it's probably a really simple one to answer. So uh how did they put the beads and feathers into the horses ass without it kicking them? Horses are really big and dangerous and they get startled really easily and I'd imagine that'd be super uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just afraid of horses though. Does it help when they are tailless so they don't kick you? How did the tradition start? Ah I can send you a picture for reference but you can just google White Bull South Dakota friendly and go to the one that says first friendly indian to visit whites in Custer S.D.
Yes, you did answer my questions. Thank you so much!

I heard a story not too long ago actually about how grass dancers back in the day would put thier beaded yokes over the horses as the grass dance as well as many others were banned-thus they could have the grass dance gear in plain view with none the wiser!
The reason why grass dancers wear large medallions to cover thier face was also for the same reason-so the dancers would not be caught or identified easily.
pony beads have larger holes to thread horse hair through-so it is a practical solution.
Horse sometimes wore fully beaded(seed beads!)head wear as well.
Good stuff!

Oh so like they are just like hanging from the tail and not like y'know in there. Okay thank you I got confused. Are y'all like specialized in some dances? Horses wear those cow things? If for whatever reason I have to do like an essay or project about the Cree I am probably going to be set, kek.
WAIT! What does the grass dance do? Is it true y'all do dances to summon things because I am a little confused.

Beautiful!
I've never seen a Native American outfit based on deep blue as main color. It is very interesting to learn about your ways.
Deep blue is my color, together with black and silver.
For me:
Deep blue represents the element of water as well as the oceans and the skies these two both represent freedom and endlessness. Black represents fertility, the depth of the Earth, wisdom, night, knowledge of the unknown. Silver is the color of the Moon, water as well, purity, and seeing the truth.
Respect,
Storm

I only wish my people (the Hungarians) were still have their lore, but sadly all we know about our ancient clothings, symbols and the rest are some clues found in folk tales, and some guesses scientists took after finding the remains of clothes and items in old tombs.
Today, Hungarians are totally "civilized", which means we lost all our heritage. Once we were similar to Native Americans, we had many nomadic tribes, living in mobile tents (yurta), totems, we were masters of horseback riding and horse archery, and had shamans to contact us with the spirit world. And all of that is lost. And then some wonder why history was so rough with us, why we had to suffer so much and they don't realize that without our traditions we had nothing to guide us on the good path.

wow!i didnt know that!its sad when a culture tries to civilize away its rich past just to be thought of as bieng modern(much like the swedish culture-rich viking myths and folklore but they just want to be regarded as mobile cell phone industrists...sad!)i guess we can only hope that the younger generation recognizes that there is alot that can be gathered and used to move forward in a positive way!

Wow, I've seen many contemporary Traditional outfits, but this is amazing. The color theme is spectacular, and the starry design gives it an amazing depth! By the way, what is that in your left hand? A horsetail?
