A bibliophile's dream! I really like how much detail you put in each book in the shelves--they all have colorful covers, some are standing up straight and some are leaning, but they're still in neat rows. In fact, I like how neat and straight everything is: the shelves, the railing, the steps on the ladder. I like the warm colors of the wood--it makes the library look like a cozy place for some quiet solitude, a nice place where one can do research or just curl up with an awesome book with hardly any interruptions. I think you did a great job on the light and shading; there's the glow from the fireplace , and then the room gets darker the farther away you move from it.

When I saw this, I was reminded somehow of the enormous library in Beauty and the Beast. I also thought of the scene in that film where Belle and the Beast sit in front of the fire together and read to each other. Like I said before, this is a book lover's dream, and I'm sure Belle would agree too! I would love to have a library like this in my house. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="392" title=" (Smile)"/>

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it Although I did 4 versions, I think this is my favorite, the lighting just creates such a nice mood from the fireplace ^^

Really really nice background here. Feel taunted though--a library at night with no lights by which to read and no chair by the fire even! Cruel cruel fate.. Also, shadow angle of the stairs....does not change no matter the time of day in any of the pics... Do not get me wrong though, I really do like this background.

Thank you! Glad you like it ^^ I noticed all the small mistakes like the lack of foreground objects, and the stairs shadow after I finished, I think I was too focused on getting all those books and shelves right xD Nonetheless I'm happy with the result ^^

The books are incredible.
And I absolutely hate when I notice something wrong after I post it here. LOL I don't know how many years it took before I went back and took a weird shadow out of my Magus pic. LOL I understand!

Ill start off by noting the nice sense of space, and also the evident patience this piece took! On first glance, the perspective didn't bother me; there are some weird areas, specifically the left hand upper corner.

When you're doing backgrounds, it is so important to remember that it's not just a simply place holder for a setting. The background in an integral part of the image, and can be used to give the meaning depth, draw the eye, and create a balanced composition. The main this that this image is lacking is composition and interest. You must remember three things; Foreground, mid-ground, and background. You should have at least two of those elements, if not three. Perhaps a chair, or a globe in the mid ground? Then consider a pile of books, or a curtain in the foreground. It's even better if you can find a way to make these objects mean something. Is owner of this library old? Sad? Evil? Really into taxidermy? (Sorry about the italics...I don't know what I did...)

Let's look at this concept piece from Wreck it Ralph as an example. Who better to study then the pros?

So you'll notice the use of the foreground, the action of the characters occurs on the mid-ground, and then the windows rest on the background. The lighting is diverse, and helps to draw the eye to the action. Also, there's a set of pictures hanging on the wall. This tells me that Jean, the owner of this room, is narcissistic and an undesirable character.

Here is another great piece, from Pinocchio. What do the elements in the painting tell you about the person who lives there? He's clearly not a butcher.

Look at the paint on the buildings in this one. Where do you think this story takes place?

Even someone like Bruce Wayne, who tries so hard to hide who he really is, would have something in his library to give away a character element. An empty coffee mug? A discarded jacket?

In conclusion ,this image is a great, strong base. Now what it needs is life and character. That's what will differentiate between someone who can draw, and someone who is an artist.

Haha thank you for the long message, I really appreciate the critique ^^ I'm actually quiet surprised I missed that, I think I was so caught up executing the piece, I got caught up in actually doing all the books, perspective, etc. right. I'll definitely keep that in mind for my future pieces It should really help me improve my interiors ^^ Thanks again!! <3
