Pretty sure the DHC4 was pretty indestructible.

I think the RCAF used them quite a bit. We used some in Nam but they got shot up on landings by the NVA.

Poor Nazis never seem to get a break.
Lot's of great detail in this, mate. Probably a better Caribou than I could ever draw too. XD

Well, they do kind of bring it on themselves... what with the chasing ancient evils that *dramatic voice "No Man Should Ever Lay Eyes On."

True... but where there's ancient evils... adventure is out there!

Yes, those pesky locals, getting all miffed that you took their Fertility Goddess.
Monty looks stunning no matter where she is. I had no idea what the weapon was, thanks for the reference.
No, your Caribou is not the worst. Looks good to me.

Heh "miffed"... it's such a fun word to say. Yes very pesky, especially when you're simply trying to hold down that fine British tradition of stealing stuff from people to primitive to have invented lawyers yet.
Cheers mate, and I'm glad you think she still looks good. I figure that, even if there's little real-life glamour to be had in something (say, archeology or slogging through a jungle) Monty'll just damn-well find some

I don't even remember where or when I first heard 'Miffed' but I love that word, too. Your analogy of primitive folks not having lawyers really brought a chuckle with it. Priceless.
The most fascinating explanation for removing artifacts from their original owners was from a British publication I read on Eygptology (it was written shortly before World War 2). In a nutshell, the locals just didn't understand nor want to understand what they had and the British Museum was safe-guarding them for future generation. Next time I rob a bank, can I use this in my defense???
I suppose it's because I grew up in that era, but I really like Monty and her understanding of 60s fashion. Bravo, to you, for having a keen eye for it.
Like I said before, Monty has more than enough elegance to make wearing a rice sack look great.

To be honest, for now this is probably just going to be a one off... something I wanted to get out of my system before tackling the colouring for the next issue of comic. Whether I integrate it into a later arc... maybe, not sure yet.

Here's a thought. You could use this as a fond memory in another story line. Put the thought bubble shape around the edges and have Monty or Jethro saying something to the effect of...
"Remember that time in the Amazon?"

That's a lot of ADVENTURE to cram in that first panel. XD Digging the dynamic paneling and typography in the inset.
I'm afraid I have to agree with Seanny. I wasn't going to say anything about it before, but you have drawn Monty enough now that you could stand to give her a few new expressions. °♦°; (even the 1st-gen cyborgs had some range, unless the show ever wanted to imply they were complete zombies/blank slates...)

wraith11 In reply to 47ness [2010-04-07 14:57:16 +0000 UTC]
Well ADVENTURE needed to be implied... otherwise it could be mistaken for military (hence the type too ) To be honest the inset was a fluke, I was playing around with an alternative idea in the sketch pad and decided to leave it there.
Yeah, Monty's expression is somewhat flatter than I would have liked. As I said to Seanny though: I'm having trouble reconciling Monty's usual heavy-lidded expression with "comical suprise"... the other reason for that being that I don't imagine her being an easily suprised person.
I think I'm going to go find one of those "25 expression" memes now and practise.

Ahah, which is still fine considering Indy & friends seem to get their hands on plenty of military-grade equipment (just, not for very long...) |D
Heavy lids indeed... that comes with the territory, doesn't it? But a counterbalance character is always welcome. (...said the comic writer who is in dire need of including more, and more interesting, characters in his own story) XD;;;
Ach, that meme. I'd do that meme if I wasn't already busy drawing my characters over and over just for the comic. XD;

With the Gunslinger Girl territory or with the "sultry spy" territory? If the former then I wouldn't say they're all heavy lidded and dull eyed... Triela for instance. If the latter: yeah, pretty much. A few people (you included I think) reffered to Monty as looking sultry so I decided to roll with that.
Eh, I think I need the meme just to force me to explore other avenues. Yes, I'm drawing the characters over and over again, but Monty's generally unimpressed attitude doesn't leave much room for exploration.

If all else fails, think about including a new character to supply the more lively expressions ...or just write in more Priscilla. XD

that is incredable i love how u do the painting style now is that with the smudge tool or ? u using hard brushes with a low opacity?

I'm using hard brushes set at somewhere between 50-70% opacity... and a pressure-sensitive tablet.

Nice layout, although I personally think Monty could use a little more expression.
Also I like the way she looks on the right with the more obvious black lineart, but that's just my personal preference when it comes to comics/manga/etc.

Yeah, to be honest I'm having a bit of trouble getting away from her usual heavy-lidded look.
As for the comic panel, I'm looking for a few different ways to do that sort of thing. This one takes too long at the moment for use in the actual comic itself, but the bolder lines helped it pop a bit more and stand out from the more atmospheric main picture.
