Hi Paul! I remember seeing your work on the front page of CGTalk, and the controversy it caused! No big long debates here, but I think what you do is very worth while, and it does take a good deal of skill (I know, I've tried it) Sad that people seem to see it as less valid when it's digital, if your works were traditional media, people would have not had a problem!Ai, I digress.. this is one of my favourite pieces of yours, I think because of the shapes and colour, the whole piece is cluttered, but in a good way compositionally, everything sticks together nicely to form a whole. Probably due to the fact the colours bleed over each other a lot, which is lovely. Her expression is just too cute, too.

Thanks for that, I'm new to deviant art and didn't find this message of yours for a while. That CGTalk thing really took me by suprise and set me back a bit! I didn't mind the criticism but it did start to get a bit personal and vitriolic. They had to take it off in the end and it now seems a bit of a lost opportunity, it was great to get front paged in my first month. But, it has got me back to drawing again - I've been working from traced and projected images for longer than I care to remember with my airbrushing work. Most of the early stuff on my cg pages was traced from photographs - including the apnea stuff - so I can't take much credit for the composition. They were all just tests to get me used to painting digitally, I've only been working this way since June. Thanks again.

The original black and white took about eight hours, the tint over the top of it - on a seperate layer - less than an hour
