assassin bugs have a long sharp beak. they readily sting, and the sting is painful, because they carry venom. never handle an assassin bug. you can recognize it by the way it carries the long sharp beak tucked backwards under its head when not in use
the closely related cone nose bugs are a health risk in the southern half of the US. they don't sting; instead they draw blood from sleeping animals and people. they transmit the very serious Chagas disrase.
