Description The way that I see things, the purpose of art is to illicit a response from the viewer. Typically when we draw characters we are trying to convey a feeling or an emotion. As visual and visceral creatures much of our perceptions of emotions are expressed through body language and tone.

I gave the following assignment to my student ~Gray-Mecha-Fox :
Choose one of the poses from the previous assignment and redraw it from 3 different "camera" angles.
1 with the "camera" in front and above the character looking down at them
2 with the camera directly in front of the character looking up at them
3 with the camera behind/ to the side and above the character looking down at a sharp angle.

I then wanted him to tell me what kind of "feeling" each new angle invokes when combined with the pose.

I did the assignment myself and opted to draw the pose from 6 angles. the bottom 3 are the required angles and the top 3 are viewing the figure straight on, at a 3/4 view and a profile view.

Note that in all 6 poses I've tried to keep the head about the same size and used that as the focal point for my camera.

I don't mind telling you though that about halfway through the first view I thought "why on earth did I pick THIS pose..." lol The assignment was harder than I expected and I was grateful that I was just using StickMan.

I challenge you to try this exercise out yourself. pick a static pose and draw it from 3 or more different angles. Play with camera heights as well, don't just spin your figure around a turn table

Oh hell.... maybe I'll have to try this assignment out.... with my graphics tablet though, so I have ctrl+z to assist me if I want to undo something.

Unfortunately, my erasers don't work too well. It's only when I draw something so faintly you can barely see it that they actually remove what I've drawn completely.

Still, I gotta practice drawing with traditional media sooner or later... Maybe I can ask my Mom if I can get an art class just to learn how to work with traditional media.

That's true! But if the pieces are good enough, then my bedroom walls COULD use some more decoration...
