Broken AngelsChapter Five
Warnings
/-~*~-/
Desmond hesitated before he walked into the bright noon sun, blinking several times before
his eyes became adjusted to the light. He wasn't usually out in the day time. He didn't like
how many people were running around and he didn't care for the light anyway. One of the
side effects of haveing a demon as a lover was that you got used to the darkness.
He waited a moment, his hands pushed deep in the pockets of his faded jeans before he
set off down the sidewalk. He avoided eye contact with anyone who passed by him, though
he wasn't entirely sure why. Desmond's heavy boots made a soft clicking sound against the
pavement as he walked.
After a little while, his steps brought him automatically to The Cat's Cradle. Even though it
was bright daylight, VIPs were still allowed in in the daytime. He went in through the back
door, thankful that inside it was still only dimly lit.
There was no loud music and no flashing lights. The only people were a couple of other VIPs
smoking in the back or doing some early drinking at the bar. Staff ran around everywhere,
already preparing for thier nighttime rush. Some were sweeping clean the dance floor, others
were shining the poles the dancers used, and one guy was on a ladder, changing one of the
green neon lights on the ceiling. None of them seemed to care much about the others that
were still there. They just worked around them.
Desmond headed straight to the bar. He wasn't planning on drinking yet, but he knew that
the guy he was looking for could always be found at the bar, just about any time of the day.
As he walked up to the long bar, he glanced down it's length, smirking slightly when he saw
the blonde he was looking for.
The man looked to only be in his early twenties. His golden blonde hair had a windswept look
about it, bangs falling slightly into his dark brown eyes. A grin lit his handsome features as
he noticed Desmond. "Oi, mate!" He called out to the darker blonde, waving one hand to
motion his friend towards him. "Wha' brings ye down 'ere a' this time a th' day?"
Desmond smiled and sat down in the seat next to the blonde haired boy. "Hey, Miles. I
came looking for you."
"'Course ye did!" Miles' grin widened as he took another drink of the amber liquid in his glass.
"Everyone's lookin' fer me."
"That's not nessisarilly a good thing." Desmond smiled again. He sighed slightly and rested
his elbows on the bar, looking down at his hands for a moment. "Have you heard?" It was
acctually a very stupid question, and Desmond wasn't sure why he always automatically
said it to Miles. If there was absolutely anything worth knowing about, Miles already knew.
Miles almost laughed out loud. "'Course I've 'eard! I was th' one whats spread th' word teh
good ol' Frank 'ere tha' if that Ivan comes 'round again, he aint teh bothe' yeh." He gave
Desmond a rather hard pat on the back. "An' I know somethin' you don't." he winked at his
friend.
Desmond frowned. "You always know something I don't. But what is it?"
"I know where tha' little vampire is stayin'."
Desmond arched a brow slightly. "Really?" He shifted slightly in his seat. "Think you could
tell me?"
Now it was Miles' turn to frown. "Now why would yeh want teh visit 'im, eh? I thought yeh
said yeh was done wid 'im."
The fallen angle shook his head. "It's not like that, Miles. Look, you know he broke the seal,
right?"
"Aye."
"Well, what does that mean?"
"It means yeh gotta little renagade on yeh hands."
"Exactly." Desmond leaned against the bar again. "And I'm pretty sure that Ivan understands
that too, but I've got to tell him to get out of town."
Miles' frown deepened. "Why? An' why you, more 'portantly."
Desmond sighed and looked at his hands resting on the bar once more. "Because if Ivan's
here, Aric's here, and that's the last thing any of us needs. And, it's gotta be me because I'm
the only one he'll listen to." He glanced over to see his friend's brown eyes still fixed on him
in unbelief. "Look, do you want to do it?"
The blonde laughed. "Yeah righ', mate! Yeh couldn' pay meh teh tell tha' vampire
anythin'."
"There you go." Desmond sighed again. "Okay change the subject now. I don't want to talk
about Ivan any more than I have to."
Miles shrugged. "Alrigh'. 'Ave you seen tha' new dancer girl?" He grinned.
"Miles!"
"Wha'?"
Desmond rolled his eyes and shook his head. "You're gonna be sorry, one of these days."
Miles grinned again and shook his head. "I don' think I'll end up like yeh, mate. I got too high
a standin' teh get booted out."
Desmond continued to shake his head, his green eyes fixed on his friend. "How the heck do
you manage to avoid His eyes?" He nodded upwards, as if indicating the ceiling.
Miles waved one hand dissmissively. "Ahh, He don' care 'bout wha' I do, anymore." He gave
a sly smile. "B'sides, yeh know yeh can't avoid 'is eyes. I told yeh. High standin's."
The fallen angel smiled slightly. Miles was what they called a rogue angel. He wasn't fallen,
but he was far from being a saint. He was what some humans reffered to as a gardian
angel. It was suppose to be his job to watch out for the humans down here. Which was
why he was allowed to get away with so much.
Desmond just sighed and got up from his seat. "I promissed Ethan I'd get back before dark.
Just tell me where Ivan is, I'll tell him to go, and hopefully we won't have to deal with this
much longer."
Miles shrugged. "Alrigh', mate, I still think yeh should think it oveh. Ah well, but I know thehs
no changin' yeh mind." He wrote the address down on a napkin and handed it to the fallen
angel. "See yeh 'round, mate."
"Sure, Miles." Desmond forced a small smile as he took the napkin from the rogue angel and
turned around, heading back out of the club the way he had come.
