Description Last game was definitely eventful:
We turned in the viperdile hides, and Selmyn was vastly disappointed to find out that they're more valuable if there's a chance of hatching them... for blood sport.  (This went over as well as you'd expect with Rhavaniel and Seifer especially, who have found an unexpected common ground in their respect for nature. We also found out that the reason we're having trouble getting jobs is a Mercenary group called the Broken Blades, and they do not like competition. If they consider US competition is yet an unknown.

Seifer and Rhav actually went out drinking and didn't murder each other. (Seifer however took like four more drinks than Rhav to even get a buzz going.) And they talked, and she now knows his back story, and has a better understanding of his general resentment of others. He also scored a few free drinks telling old stories to her, her bodyguard the Teifling girl Cherish, and anyone else that happened to stop and listen.

We then decided that Seifer was in a good position to try and get information on the Broken Blades, as he has no obvious long standing ties to the rest of the group and does have some good skills... but this all got interrupted when the group, split up briefly for various tasks, saw a huge column of smoke rising from outside the North gates.  (Seifer managed to scale a building like a cat up a tree, then made it two roof tops in the right direction to investigate... and fell off into a pile of... used... straw. The poor guy has a problem outside his favored terrain apparently, he was even sober.)

When we arrived at the gates we found out that Lizardmen had attacked, burning and slaughtering three caravans who were unlucky enough not to make it to the gates before the guards closed them out, from which we were only able to retrieve two survivors, a Gnomish man and a three month old gnome child. (Currently in the care of the half orc mom who had her own baby since we freed her and her mate/spouse from the slavers)

Between Seifer and Rhavaniel we were quickly able to determine what had happened.

War has been declared by the Lizardfolk for what happened to the Viperdiles. Seifer is vastly upset, and currently raking himself mentally over the coals for all the ways he's now retroactively sure he misread things, and fully blames their Viperdile hunt for this... which unfortunately led to a very. Heated. Argument.

((if you're wondering what any of this has to do with the picture, we're getting there.))

Seifer in his distress openly argued that this was their fault, and Selmyn argued back that such an idea was 'stupid' because they were just creatures and they were eating people. Seifer argued that retrospectively, they could have looked for an alternative path, especially after finding out that Viperdiles are rare these days, and that he could have investigated the site of the attacks more. (He feels especially guilty because the viperdile came quite close to them in the night when they camped and picked off a deer instead of them.)

Seifer continued to argue that this was stupid, and that it was nessiary to kill the viperdiles, and accused him of valuing the creatures more than people, and generally insisting he was being boneheaded and stupid.

Seifer climbed back to the top of the wall they'd been on earlier because he wanted to get away from the fighting, but unfortunately he's no less stubborn than Sel, and continued to argue that it's not her place to dismiss the value the Lizardmen had put on the Viperdiles, and was furious that someone who studied magic 'couldn't see the value of such things' and seemed to side with he Hunting Guild who seems to prefer it's creatures stuffed and mounted or in the ring. In his final burst of fury because he was clearly not getting through and was pissed about being called a bonehead and that she was so insistent that the Lizardmen were overreacting to their actions, (this hits close to home because he knows his own belief system probably sounds primitive to her, if she knew about it.) called her a stuffed suit. Rather loudly.

((I'm just kind of picturing Lizardmen hiding in the swamp trying to decide what kind of trap we were setting up to be bellowing at each other loudly and in the open.))

Selmyn at this point Fired magic missiles at Seifer. Just a first level round, but doing ten damage and causing him to stumble backward and come close to falling off the city wall. (He saved himself, but it was closer than he would have liked.)

Seifer did not fire back, (though god knows he was tempted) telling her he would if he didn't think they'd need her magic, and that she'd be a waste of his arrows. She started to argue, as Robin ran to check on Seifer, that she could defend just fine all by herself... and the City Guard showed up.

Sel ended up getting a 150 gold fine as a 'first time offender' and since Robin had already healed Seifer (in spite of his protestations that he was fine.) as her choice instead of spending a couple nights in a cell, as there are apparently rules about this sort of thing, and they kind of frown on you casually blasting people with magic.

Seifer determined to stay at the Wall and help the guard keep watch for another attack because he didn't want to be near Sel (who misty stepped back to the Manor to 'write a strongly worded letter', and because he figured that if they get attacked again, his arrows will be harder to pinpoint than a fireball. He's not sure what else to do, but if he had the coin and chance, he'd definitely be crawling into a bottle out of guilt, feeling like he's responsible for the deaths in the caravan by his own misjudgement and desire to get paid (even though he ended up not taking his cut from the Viperdiles because he felt so furious and guilty about the talk about bloodsport.

Seifer needs better coping mechanisms.

But he's probably not going to admit that for a while.

I thought you could appreciate this one. ^_^;;; Yeahhhhh Yeah it got... colorful.
I guess we started two wars. One with the Lizardfolk and one with each other. (I am drawing the story telling at the bar too, it's just not finished yet.)

You thought well. I'm curious to see what will happen next. How will you keep being a group if you can't bear each other?

I dunno, but it'll be interesting to see how this plays out and if they can work it out somehow, and if we're going to end up with a group division. I mean I think Rhav is on his side (which is a surprise given how much salt they threw at each other his first day) Robin was at least concerned about him getting blasted, Llew (who is currently being an NPC) is probably going to find a nice wall to bang his head on because he hired Seifer and will be a little frustrated that it took a week before he got basically literally scared out of the house, and Hereboard... no idea about Hereboard.

A group division would be bad... maybe some of you would have to make new characters so that you can keep playing? I hope you'll work this out.
(In the meantime, Oni and I are RPing about how Arty and Brune plan to try to rescue Rob... ^^ but don't worry we'll stop before we actually get to know if Rob is really there, so that you can decide and write about this part after the prompt)

I didn't plan that little event to start an internal party conflict - but these things happen naturally sometimes.

But then, I always stress to my players that actions have consequences, so I hope they knew there was a chance they were walking into something that might set off another thing that's even bigger. Of course this puts me in the position of not knowing what's going to happen next session - and what people are going to do... which makes planning difficult.

I feel for you. My husband is my DM and I know he doesn't like it when he knows nothing of what will happen next. That's why he make us think of what's next at the end of every session, so that he has at least a piece of information to work on.

I'd love to do that, but sadly not all of our players are there 100% of the time (Thank you Schedule Conflicts) and I dislike locking things in for characters that may or may not be present with agency. So I tend to shoot from the hip more than I actually plan - it's worked out so far.

Besides - the plot moves on regardless of the players - their interactions with it do affect it of course - but it continues to march on toward it's conclusion whether they are there to see it or not.

You are more like me as a master, then. I tend to improvise, starting from the point were the NPC are, because they continue to live as the players interact or not with them. But my husband prefers to plan things better. Which is made easier by the fact that we are not many players (4 of us but I'm his wife and 2 of the others are a couple too) so it's not difficult to schedule a session.

I'm probably a mix of the two lol. I like planning out encounters - or at least having the stat blocks ready to go in case something DOES happen and people square up to throw down. Our group contains xaotl, another friend, another friend and her S.O, and my girlfriend - so sometimes things happen and one of them can't make it to a game and we have to roll with a crew of four ( We used to have sixth, but she had to drop out due to work ) - but I like it when we have a "full" crew of five.

A full crew is always better. We are, in fact, 5 characters, but one of us is a NPC due to the fact that he is the character of a friend that lives thousands of miles away. But he comes once a year and then we can play full crew. That's always more fun.

We do ours online, since most of us are distant from each other anyway <3 But that's awesome!

Since we have a choice, we prefer to play at the same physical table. We chose the group on that purpose (except for the NPC who was always meant to be a NPC most of the time).

I miss my table days! There's something special about being able to see player reactions when you blow up their boats.

Yeah I dunno. I know Tor is making some plans, and I think we may have played into his hands with this, but we'll have to find out. Seifer is already my switched out character because Llew was tired of being doubted after his run in with Foeburner, so I'd prefer not to rotate -again-. X_X I like my sad grumpy drunk.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing what you guys have in mind though <3 and I do have some ideas what's going on behind the scenes. *rubs hands together* I'm just not sure if Asmodeus is planning anything on that front. I need to ask <3

I understand that. It's no fun changing character every time. You'll tell me.

I sent a note to Asmodeus so that our plans are known to Luna if she wants to join the "party" but I don't know if she will. It's much fun, so thank you for that wonderful opportunity to RP!

How cool ! I just hope you won't make things too dangerous for us because, well, we are not very powerful. We have to rely on discretion and luck, I think. Or we can send our familiars to bite Liam and distract him?
