Well I mostly use Nikon D800 + Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 closed to f/8 ... In the past I was using Nikon D7000 + Nikkor 105 f/2.8 at f/8. Normally one could not see a difference in the results 
From my point of view the "secrets" of photography are:
- light and how you use itΒ
- model and how is posed
- how knowledgeable one is at retouchingΒ
Most of today's cameras will deliver similar results when images are web-sized

It is a fantastic image with great model!
To my taste, if I was shooting it, I would have her tilt the head just a tiny bit more to the right, and I would make another take where the hair is covering one of the eyes 
All in all your picture has got a very pleasant tone

Thank you for your critique! As you can probably imagine I have multiple images to pick from and I've picked this one especially because of the head tilt - I like the innocent sadness it expresses. It make me, as a viewer wander if she said, is she missing somebody, is she tricking me into being seduced?

Contrasting with your other image I commented on, the black background here is a brave move with such dark hair, yet a sense of separation remains. Again, a sexy off-the-shoulder look without being explicit, beautiful tonality and do I detect the faintest hint of red in her lips?Β RemarkableΒ image of a remarkable model!

Thank you! I've been experimenting with a new type of editing where by I use multiple black&white layers with varied opacity to leave some of the original color pass through. This would be best viewed printed or using a high-end display supporting wide-gamut colors.

The effect is interesting, but as you say, not viewed to it's best advantage on DA. I suppose the subtlety would be lost if you adjusted the gamma to compress the dynamic range?

Well it's already compressed by changing the color from PhotoRGB to sRGB so I guess not much can be done ...Β
