OH, by the way, I just finished reading Hamlet and I loved it!! And I was wondering, if one were to do an Avatar/Hamlet crossover (not that I am planning on it, but if one were to do it) who would you cast??

Ghost - Iroh (Went with personality instead of familial relationship on this and Claudius)
Claudius β Ozai
Gertrude β Ursa
Polonius β Gran Gran (Hakoda just wouldnβt work, The Mechanic would be a better personality fit, but I want the family connection to drive Katara and Sokka over the edge. I was also thinking of Kya for that reason but personality doesnβt seem like a good fit.)
Ophelia β Katara (Who else, maybe Yue?)
Laertes β Sokka (Jet would probably be a better personality fit but I want the family connection to Ophelia which seems to be lacking in most productions I have seen. I want to choreograph the sword fight at the end, though it is hard to see Sokka using an un-baited and envenomed blade).
Fortinbras β Aang (Sorry not much for a glowee guy to do)
Horatio β Teo (There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophies).
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern β Haru and Hahn (This is a hard one for me because βRosencrantz and Guildenstern are Deadβ is one of my favorite all time plays, so I canβt think of these characters without thinking of Stoppardβs characters. )
Marcellus β Longshot and Smellerbeer (Longshot just wouldnβt have any lines)
The Player King β Kuei (He is a natural at playing the king)
The Player Queen β Aunt Wu
The Grave Digger β Toph
Osric β Long Feng
And many, many more but I have to actually do some work today. Please let me know what your choices are. You did such a good job with R&J I am sure yourβs will be far superior to mine.

Yes!! You're casting was almost exactly the same as mine, with a few little differences:
Polonius -Hakoda, because Sokka is attached to his father the most and so I could see him wanting revenge for his death.
Horatio - Jet, just because he is, or at least was at one time, friends with Zuko.
Rosencrantz & Gildenstern- Ty Lee & Mai, because they are allied with Claudius/Ozai and I could easily see him using them to spy on Zuko
(though I have not seen "rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead").
The Players- the Ember Island Players (for obvious reasons) OR the traveling nomads (Chong and Lily as King and Queen).
And perhaps that schizophrenic man from "the painted lady" episode as the gravedigger, because I could see him showing up doing random tasks like gravedigging and throwing about skulls. And then Toph as his companion, because she would totally be hanging out with him and listening to his jokes.
The swordfight between Zuko and Sokka at the end would be incredible! I'm almost sorry we did not get to see such a fight between these two in the actual series. And it would be extremely touching to see them with their dying breaths forgive each other and see themselves as brothers, and come to terms with their shared love for Katara. And then die. ;_;
I love your idea of Long Feng as Osric, I had not thought of that.

Great to see your take on the cast! I love Mai and Ty Lee as R & G, and the Players as the players.
My wife suggested the Cabbage merchant as the other grave digger. She also worried that Katara was too strong a character to play Ophelia. She thought that Iroh was too good a man to be obsessed with vengeance as the Ghost is, but she couldnβt come up with anyone better. She wanted to know who we wanted as Voltimand & Cornelius? I think Foaming Mouth guy and Cabbage merchant, what about you?
As a side note, my wife is going to be directing a production of Hamlet this Fall at a not for profit, equity waiver theatre. I have tried but she refuses to do it in a Chinese style and she is not going to have Hamlet with a terrible burn scar on his face. I am still asking for a duel where Hamlet has two Chinese broad swords and Laertes uses a black Jian blade, but I donβt think she will go for that either. I love your description of the reconciliation of the two characters at the end.

I'm glad your wife has joined in on our fun! I personally love her idea of Cabbage Man as the other gravedigger. Hmmm, true, I think Yue would actually be closer in temperament to Ophelia, but Katara and Sokka have that close sibling relationship vital to Ophelia and Laertes. Voltemand & Cornelius? Let's see...I would think servants to the Firelord, maybe Zhao and Yon Rha? I would like to see Foamy Mouth as Yoric the court jester (though alas, he is dead).
Hamlet is all the rage at my school right now since we are studying it in English class (at least among my friends and I). That is so cool your wife is doing a production of it!! I would of course LOVE to see your Chinese-style version (your description of it just made me smile), though sadly I can understand why your wife refuses. I wish her all the best luck with her production!

Right now she is planning on making it a Victorian Ghost Story. She really likes the idea of the high romanticism of the Victorian age. All those reborn chilvaric ideals and courtly love (Ivanhoe etc...) mixed in with the Gothic novels of Edgar Allen Poe and Bram Stoker.
