Description
So I thought I'd provide you guys with a little line-up of the revamps I've done so far. As of current, there hasn't been that many finished partly because school has got me busy (and I take forever just to conceptualize and sprite something out). However, I have come a long way since I've started, and my skills have improved greatly. Each one of these characters will have a role to play in my current series Randomosity, and I'll be updating their bios below when I get a chance to get all my ideas together. This post will update periodically when I've finished more characters and had a chance to take a breather in my life. If you like one of these and want to help make sheets for them, shoot me a comment or PM and we'll see what we can cook up.
From left to right: Xypter, Turbo, Tribent, Breaker, Sparx
Edit [5/30/15]: Added Sparx to the list.
Edit [7/23/19]: Believe it or not, I have been active these past 4 years despite seeming otherwise. I decided it's time to give you all an update with two new characters, Eclipse the fox and Rev the duck.
If you were paying attention, you'll also notice Turbo (the leftmost green guy) not only went through some palette revisions, but is also posing in a JoJo pose. Think you can find it?
Expect anymore additions to appear on this post.

Thanks!!!
When I started spriting back in 2007, Genesis was my primary style up until now. I kinda decided I wanted more room to work with so it was more of an economical choice than anything. My style has evolved so much, this might as well be Genesis 2.0
But to answer your question more in-depth, I basically started by editing already made Sonic Genesis sprites. As of recent, I've been trying to stray away from using bases as much as possible since they can be a bit limiting. I also use resources like www.pixeljoint.com/ in order to gain inspiration and learn new things about the spriting world as a whole. Editing is a good place to start, but if you want a better challenge, try drawing out a sprite from scratch and create your own style. It's really freeing and gives you more room to be creative.
One thing I'll also add is to learn a little color theory. kawacy.deviantart.com/art/Norm⦠I'll give you this pic as a prime example. She doesn't just use the color red as her shades, but goes between orange and purple to give the colors more vibrancy. I use this a lot on blacks and whites too. It helps ensure that I'm not always using the same shades for every character. www.colourlovers.com/palettes I'll also use this website when I run low on inspiration.
There's tons more stuff you can learn just by going outside of the Sonic spriting realm. When you get a chance, go outside your comfort zone and do something you've never done before. You'll thank yourself later
Hope this helps~
