Description
Here's a complex map of the seedworld known as Desma during its first years of settlement. Two major continents are known from Desma, one being the Primaria continent, which covers the north pole and dominates the northern hemisphere and crossing the equator to the south. Primaria is the continent where desmans, crabs and snails inhabit all together during the first few years after the seeding event. Hespera is the second continent, one that neighbours Primaria to the west, but desmans do not live there, instead the continent is dominated by just crabs and snails. Smaller subcontinents do exist. The Austra subcontinent is located southeast to Primaria, near the south pole, where desmans, crabs and snails all coexist. The subcontinent of Io, in the northern hemisphere, however, is only colonized by snails. Large islands that surround these landmasses were also seeded with one of these three organisms, at least. The Raibba island located between Primaria and Hespera, is colonized by just snails. The Pinna island, southeast to Austra, is colonzied by desmans, snails and crabs. The Nealva island is unique for being located between Primaria and Austra, and the only large animal present being the desman, and with the lack of surrounding invertebrates to feed on, these mammals will find themselves in a harsh situation where they will have to find food in less usual conditions, or find extinction themselves. The islands of Taura and Maya are only colonized by crabs, where they are forced to be either algivores, detritivores, scavengers or cannibals. Many other islands, including Frigia, Kamista, Tralppa, Moiotta, Toron, Butchy, Ya, Raia, Praia, Waya, Ceua, Baia and Lupis are devoid of any of these three animals, only being colonized by unicellular microbes, protists, nematodes, chlorophytes, fungi and spinach. There is a large ocean, Thala, and smaller seas, such as Convara in the south and Oura in the north. Tripla is the name given to the Y-shaped seaway that separated northern Primaria, southern Primaria and Hespera. These oceans are mostly uninhabited for the time being, beyond microbes, such as bacteria, archaea, protists, phytoplankton, some fungi and some nematodes. To contextualize on this seedworld, here's the list of organisms currently imagined to live here:
- Bacteria
- "Archaea"
- several protists
- Chlorophyta
- Spinach (Spinacia oleracea) - the only plant species in this world, beyond microscopic algae, forming vast thickets of vegetation in humid areas, serving as a food source for the snails
- Lichens
- Molds
- other basic fungi
- White garden snail (Theba pisana) - the only mollusk seeded in this world, and the only properly terrestrial animal, serving as food source for desmans and crabs
- Nematoda - small microscopic worm-like animals that serve simple and basic eccological roles
- Potamon fluviatileΒ - freshwater crab species that serves as food for desmans and as predators for the snails
- Pyrenean desman (Galemys pyrenaicus) - the only vertebrate seeded in this world, feeds on crabs and snails
