5 million years in the future, Australia is a very different place than it was half a dozen million years prior. Among the various differences, we can observe the presence of an alien plant, the cacti. These are large descendants of the prickly pear cacti, once native to the Americas, but has since been introduced by ancient man. These spiky plants have created a brand new environment for the local wildlife to adapt to. One of the animals that takes advantage from this, is the cactutoo (Opuntiavis antilophus). This is a descendant of the galah. It is much smaller and has a radically different color scheme than its Holocene ancestor. It lives around the cacti growths, using the thorns as a guaranteed protection against marauding predators. As a result, this is a preferred place to nest, for these birds.
