Description If you are not aware, Charlott-A  has proposed a speculative challenge throughout this month of September ( www.deviantart.com/charlott-a/… ). It will consist of you creating speculative creatures, as it is said in the challenge. I've drawn mine, from day 13 (its Friday the 13th... as if I cared).

1. Speculative alien planet environment (Rosea): The planet Rosea is a planet around the size of Earth that orbits a star simillar to that of the sun. This planet is also bathed by a small white dwarf that orbits the sun, and takes around 165 years to complete a whole orbit, so there are periods every couple of centuries, where the night is brighter... This is the day during the dark night century. The planet is breathable with amounts of oxygen and nitrogen simillar to modern days, but with greater amounts of argon in the atmosphere than on Earth, which could proove dangerous to humans, although still to be determined. There are simillar amounts of water on Rosea and Earth, but the water, in comparison, is much more saline. Most water bodies are pretty much close to saltwater, but the creatures here are perfectly adapted with the high salt concentrations, some have no problem with the amounts of salt, while others just remove the salt from the water and consume the less-saturated version.
"Plants" in this world are part of a large paraphyletic group. True plesioplants are the ones seen in the image growing close to the ground, pink moss-like undergrowth. These serve as major grazing material for herbivores and are the most widespread and adaptable of all "plants". The abundance of these gives the name of the planet, Rosea (latin for pink). Other "plants" are more related to the "animals" of the planet. Here we can see black stalks with green crests. These have an animal-like anatomy, but spend almost all their lifes stuck to the rocks and soil, acting like plants, with their green crests acting as leaves, to harness the power of the sunlight and create photosynthesis. Under these, these creatures (scientifically called "Sporatectum") possess various filaments where their reproductive systems are found. These possess a foul odor but are actually very attractive to the fauna of the world. They work as Earth's flowers. Once a Sporatectum is pollinated, a small blue sapling will grow in the opposite end of its weird, coiled worm-like body, which will then detach from the body and pursue an animal-like lifestyle until it becomes completely plant-like in adulthood.
The fauna of this world has taken niches simillar to those of Earth. Most "animals" here, also called Ambulotheres, have a typical exoskeleton protecting their body, and then a pair of petals protruding from their backs, as well as pairs of small eye-like structures in their fronts and tentacled legs and mouth apparatus. One of the most basal of them all seems to be the pig-like Mesachoerus, which possesses the typical ancestral form of a soft sea cucumber like body, with multiple legs on the back, and only two pairs of legs closer to the tougher head, with a faint exoskeleton. The legs on the back are disposed in the center of the body, instead of having a pair of legs, each one on the sides of the body, just like in Earth animals and in other more evolved ambulotheres. Mesachoerus, otherwise, still maintains the typical extendable tentacled mouth apparatus that it uses to reap flora on the ground and eat it. It also keeps with a large flower like orifice on the back, which is where the respiratory system is found, and also where many muscles attach. This flower-like protuberance, filled with bristles, releases a strong odor when it feels threatened, to avoid predators from seeing this little fella as a meal.
Soon, more advanced ambulotheres evolved. The back worm-like body retracted and gave rise to an intricate array of possibilities with its tough head with exoskeleton. Its back legs are now gone in evolved species, and only the four front legs remain. The long mouth apparatus and flower-like structure in its back maintains and evolves. A clade of very successful, mostly herbivorous creatures, has taken over, the Volans, known for diverging its flower-like muscles into powerful wings for them to use as display organs or to fly. In the left, we have various groups of Dipteroneura flying. Its old worm-like body remained in a long muscular and thin tail, while the exoskeleton remains in its head. Its legs are diminute and serve no purpose. Its exoskeleton protrudes, as in most volans, to create eyestalks. The wings work as in those of any flying animal. They feed on the nectar-like secretions of the Sporatectum and serve as major pollinators, using its huge mouth apparatus to cling to the creature. While flying, the mouth is coiled around its tail, to reduce drag during flight. A larger, flightless volan is the Titanophoenix. Its wings work as those of an ostrich, used for display, to keep predators and rivals in check, but also to attract mates. They only have two legs, the others are too small to be used for locomotion. It possesses three pairs of large eyestalks to protrude its camp of vision in a wide angle.
Another clade, much more well developed, is the Longicorps, a group of advanced ambulotheres that fused the front legs into two functional legs, while it only retained one ancestral monoleg from its old worm-like body. In the background, a Vesperta just came out of the hill to get a drink. This is a carnivorous alien monster, with a spear-like mouth to keep prey from getting away, and large armoured front legs to keep the prey down under its weight. To run it uses a combination of its front legs and the one back leg. After the prey is immobile, the Vesperta releases juices from its mouth, melting the tissues and dissolving the meat, so that it can be more easily ingested.

Don't forget to bring a water filter, some local Earth food, maybe some breathing equipment just in case... if you want a shotgun, you can bring one as well... yeah, seems to fit the description XD
