Description
Antique Advertising Souvenir Post CardCirca 1941
Postmark New York NY
Eagle Post Card View Co.
The "MAILOMAT" was a coin-operated postage meter machine for public use manufactured by the Pitney-Bowes Postage Meter Company. MAILOMAT kiosks made one operation of purchasing postage and mailing letters.
The customer simply dropped money in the coin slot, dialed the correct postage denomination, and inserted the letter in a slot. The machine printed a meter stamp containing the date of the mailing, and held the letter until it was collected by postal workers.
This one was sent from the Civilian and National Defense Exposition
at Grand Central Palace. "See the Battle of Production"

can't help but wonder how long the machine took to process one card or letter, and if the model there were really to send everything she was was holding there in her hands how long she'd be standing there. . .

Neat, eh? Didn't realize that metered mail went back that far. The earliest ones I've found were from Ottawa in 1938! Same post card, same girl, but with a Canadian Postbox.

I just love the goofy grin on the model as she mails her letters for the camera.

Lol...kind of like she was caught in the act of mailing letters.
