Gah! Quite impressive rays of light you did in this one! I have to say you really did an interesting thing with the characters. Among them, it seems, is that even though the Yajuta is "listening" it's as you described, and she's still busy with other tasks, namely working on her weapon. Which probably creates a very interesting feeling for Melanie, who probably wants nothing more then a shoulder to cry on... so it's almost as if the yajuta is acting motherly, forcing her to grow stronger.
Though, that is all speculation on my part, as for the work, I gotta say the light was again, most impressive, and how you have the characters set up is quite interesting, her slumped against the wall, and the other sitting proudly.

I don't learned it anywhere, when working on a scene I just try to see where it would take place best and how I should present that place to set the mood.
