Description
On the volcanic and somewhat secretive planet of Coyopa the Antians sprang into existence and space as the first space-faring species in their system.
When I was compiling a list of alien species, I asked my brother what kind of alien species to make and he demanded a dragon species. Well, I love me some dragons, so the Antia (also Antians) were earmarked and that was as far as I ever got until now.
The Antia are the most advanced of all the species as far as technology goes, there's even some rumors that the Antia are capable of contacting and moving through different dimensions, but if they have, they haven't told anyone. The Antia are generally the most secretive of all the species, living on a planet completely uninhabitable to anyone else. Their close proximity to their suns has resulted in a planet of extreme seasons and fluxuating gravitational pull. During the winter or prolonged cold they grow thick layers of fur and feather-like plumage. Their summer pelt is much thinner like velvet and certain ethnic groups of Antia sport patches of scales that grow during hot months.
Not all Antia have the same body type/anatomical build which can vary greatly (though the one shown is the most accepted "default" build among the ICU), though they're all generally around the same general size (huge).
Like fabled dragons, certain Antia have certain lethal traits such as spitting/injecting poison, etc and all of them breathe fire, though some choose to not display any such traits if they can help it. All have the ability to inflate their upper throat which is used in courtship as well as expressing happiness or approval. Some Antia neck skin is very thin and bursts of fire are ignited to light up this colored patch of their throat, this is strictly courtship behavior and it's very rare to see an Antia do this ever, though some have been known to do it for friends of other species who ask (it is a neat party trick).
Antia have two pairs of eyes on either side of their head, and a trio of eyes that sit on the top of their head. Their topside eyes are usually closed most of the time and protected under a piece of sliding bone that acts as an inner eyelid. As living flamethrowers, breathing fire is strictly forbidden off of Coyopa.
Special oils secreted through their skin are flammable and they often set themselves on fire as part of hygiene and cleansing. This behavior is also seen in fights between Antia, usually as a way to intimidate (much like cracking knuckles/joints).
Females are the dominant gender/sex in their society, being physically larger and more lethal. They often keep several mates.

At first I thought these were elegant creatures of intelligence and grace.
Then I saw the fluff.
Now I want one as a pet.

They are totally elegant creatures of intelligence and grace. They are also MASSIVELY fluffy. But they would not make good pets. One of them might want to keep you as a pet though!

Your story about how the Antians came about suddenly has me craving spacefaring Gudari... Wearing tiny vests and goggles!

Their winter fur must be amazing to use as clothing and filling bedding. All I can think of is them shaved lol.
LOVE the colors and concept! Can't wait for them to appear in comic!

HAHAHAHA! I would LOVE to see someone try to shave them. They're kinda like the classic elves of fantasy settings or vulcans from Star Trek. Two-legged plebes are soooooo beneath them.
"Bipeds? You mean the things we keep as pets? They- I'm sorry, they want to WHAT?"
"Some biped wants to shave us during the winter months and sell out hair."
"Why not shave their own hair!?"
"Apparently it's not as soft or bountiful."
"Well that's no excuse."

Haha, oh man! So they just shed their hair in the end like dogs do with winter coats? Or at some point rather than just gradual shedding it just mostly falls off at once (with some help of self grooming)? Seems like a waste of all that lovely lush fur but now I just imagine their world full of lumps of shed hair
Idk it could be a good trading item with other planets! (I can see how they'd be more offended at the thought. We'd be like, really you want our shed hair? Depends on culture. Here there's a part in India where the women and girls cut their hair as a dedication to their gods/rite of passage but then a few temples actually sell the hair to foreign buyers to use for wigs. (No really it was in a documentary).

I'm sure a very select group do sell their fur (along with their secreted oil), but most Antia find it disgusting and weird. So it's a really rare commodity. Largely because it would have to be shaved off. Antia hair, when it reaches the end of it's widdle hair life cycle stops getting a certain protein that helps protect it against heat and the chemical makeup of the oils they secrete is changed, so the hair actually gets burned off. Most Anita lay about with their mates, burning for days as all the hair sheds. The resulting smell is actually fairly pleasant due to the oils and some Antia find it intoxicating/an aphrodisiac. So end of season grooming is also very personal thing, fairly intimate, even among themselves.

heh thanks for asking. I'm only really providing small snippets in these things (saving the bulk of the info for the encyclopedia milestone reward on Patreon) but I enjoy answering any questions people might have, because it helps me think about the world-building a little more deeply, and helps me know what people are interested in knowing :3
