Awesome line art, that WOULD be amazing from this person. But, its just a bunch of pencil, but at the same time, is much cooler to see it done very well.
He can just highlight the lines he draws to make it line art, he just prefers to present it in its pencil-based glory.
Maybe when he gets better with line art, it will be almost second nature.
