Description
When I started this picture, I wanted to try out new techniques for coloring and shading. I am generally satisfied with the effort to reward ratio I found, but it might be a while before I try again just to allow me to increase output for a while. Here is my alligator character Sean. As a cold-blooded reptile, he likes laying out in the sun next to the pool or beach.

Edit: Based on feedback from Illogical-Lynx , I have adjusted the brow line to be more consistent with the rest of the anatomy.

Wow, I think this is a considerable step forward in the colouring and shading departments. I like the detailed and organic texture on the scales, it follows the contours of the body and each scale looks individual rather than a simple grid patter applied to the skin. If you can do this quickly then I'd definitely stick with it.
The use of colour is good too, there's plenty of contrast and everything that needs to stand out does without clashing. The gradient between the yellow scales and the green looks great!
I think the next thing to work on would be troubleshooting some of the anatomy and shapes. You've done quite a complex pose and angle here so it can be tough to place the shapes right. A friend of mine told me a really simple way to check your work when you're drawing an angle like this. He makes a new layer and uses the line tool to make sure things that should be in the same parallel plane actually are. For example, if the legs are together and are the same length, a line across your pelvis will be parallel with a line across the bottom of your feet. Likewise on a face, a line across the nose will be parallel with one across the brow or across the pupils. Obviously "parallel" actually means "in plane", so if you're using some perspective the "parallel" lines will instead converge on the vanishing point, but you get the idea.
I find whenever I look at one of my own pictures and think "there's something wrong here", it's almost always that something that should be parallel is crooked. I marked this up with some lines across various points that I think should all be roughly parallel from this angle.
Anyhow I think this is great progress, especially with the colour, I hope you keep up using this style!
