Description My tribute to the 14 wolf pups and countless other wildlife who lost their lives the barbaric programs by Sarah Palin. [link]

You can help stop this by donating or signing a petition [link] and yes, it does work. The Defenders of Wildlife and other organizations like the Sierra Club have successfully sued and won numerous court cases against the government for animal cruelty.

Feel free to post this picture and the message on your forum, blog, MySpace, even your own dA account. I give you full permission to use this picture to help spread the news.

NOTE: This has nothing to do with the election or abortion. I'm not telling you who to vote for. This is about stopping Palin's Alaskan Fish and Game department from illegal slaughter of innocent wildlife! Stay on topic!

~*~* More Info *~*~.

Denning, the act of “grabbing (14) frightened young pups and one-by-one blowing their brains out with a pistol,” was outlawed decades ago, but the Alaskan Fish and Game department tried to hide that after committing the crime. . ~ quote by Alaska wolf biologist Gordon Haber who opposes denning and publicized the crime that the killers tried to hide.

However, Sarah Palin’s department of Fish and Game, believe that the low caribou and moose population was cause by wolf predation. Their solution? Kill the wolves! And thus 800 wolves have been shot, usually from a helicopter [link] called aerial hunting, in the past four years. Even though Alaskans have voted down aerial hunting TWO TIMES, Plain’s department continued their slaughter regardless of the Alaskan’s wishes. They call it population control which is BS.

As an Environmental Science major student of University of California Berkeley, I find wolf population control, aerial hunting, and denning to be extremely STUPID (not to mention cruel. How would you like to be shot from a helicopter and your entire family slaughtered?)

Ever heard of the predator-prey cycle? [link] Basically, increasing predator population (wolves) cause decrease in prey population (caribou). With less food to eat, the predator population would naturally decline. Thus with less predator, the prey population would naturally increase once more which cause an increase predator. This is the natural cycle that drives evolution. Each time when there are too many predators, the preys are put under greater natural selection; only the fittest escape predation. Each time when there are not enough preys, the predators are put under greater natural selection; only the fittest can find enough food. This is a NATURAL CYCLE, so why are humans disrupting evolution by randomly slaughtering entire packs of wolves regardless of their fitness? If any species of animals need population control, it’s the human population [link]

Again, if you oppose this barbaric slaughter of innocent pups and other wildlife, spread the word, sign a petition, or donate

The artwork is great and I certainly am against any "denning" practices as well as the useless slaughter of animals.

I would like to point out that saying "officials from Governor Palin's..." is a baseless attempt at guilt by association: just because Sarah Palin is the governor to a state with a Department of Fish and game that may have done this, does not mean Governor Palin had any knowledge whatsoever about the event. When attempting to do what is right includes logical fallacies such as this one it debases and degrades the credibility of the attempt.

I am saying this because I support Gordon Haber and the Sierra Club, including financially, and do not want what they are attempting to be derailed.

uh-no offense but has't there been like a hundred studies that prove that the wolf population has nothing at all to do with the declining moose and caribou population? including an entire novel I had to read for AP English called never cry wolf? Gosh people are so stupid that stuff was proven back in the late 50's...

This is cool artwork; the wolf pups r soooooo adorable. It is ncredibly sad. Wolves deserve 2 live. I am a HUGE wolf lover, so hearing or reading about humans killing wolves & adorable wolf pups by shooting them 4 no reason pisses me off! F*** Sarah Palin's wolf control programs!

It pisses me off and make me hate our race even more when i see this. Where are we going? Hunting should be a crime, for whatever reason, for fun and money. People are crazy. In my country, the wolves just returned, and then you hear: but when they show any sign of aggresion, they have to be put down. GOD DAMNIT PEOPLE. What if they just want to protect their pups. In my eyes. The human race is getting staranger and more insane every single day. minute. SECOND.

I am faving this, other than this is amazingly drawn, just to spread the story behind this drawing. Spread it.

Human reasoning is so ironic. We killed them for our need because of their need. I'm not quite sure if you get me, but yeah. WE KILLED THE WOLVES BECAUSE THEY WERE GETTING RID OF WHAT WE WANTED BECAUSE THEY NEEDED IT. Wow. You can see where society is going now... Can we?

I find it funny how some people can consider ALL wolves vicious. Have they seen each and every wolf on this planet? No, of course not. It's like saying all people in one religion is bad just because there are a few loud people trying to force others to change. Or judging the human population by its murderers and rapists.

RoseRin [2013-10-11 10:34:20 +0000 UTC]

It's ironic, humans are the reason why many species are critically endangered / extinct yet they give themselves permission to kill wolves because they believe that wolves are causing a decline in caribou and moose population. It's part of nature, part of a wolf's necessity, we have no right to interfere with that.

Couldn't have been pups. Hunting takes place in the Winter - they'd be old enough to take care of themselves.

Also, I've never seen solid proof that this actually occurred.

And the gray wolves aren't endangered. We should be worrying about red wolves if we're bothering with wolves, since they're CRITICALLY so.

I did this to someone who I knew that hunted wolves and didn't see a problem with this:

 "Do you have a dog?"

 "Yes. Why?"

 "You hunt wolves, right?"

 "Well, yeah... Why??"

"Do you think wolves are related to dogs?"

"No, of course not. Wolves are savage. Dogs are awesome."

*plays wolves howling on computer* *his dog howls along*

"... Why is he doing this?"

"Dogs came from wolves. End of story. You're hunting your dog's cousins." *walks away*

 "..."

Dogs aren't descendants of Grey Wolves. They're descendants of a European breed.

And actually, yes, wolves are savage, dogs are not. They are not domesticated, and thus are savage. There IS a difference. It's hardly likely to compare my Pomeranians to a grey wolf.

That, and we can control dogs. They don't threaten the moose and caribou.

Europeans wolves ARE a grey wolves, just not the American kind :/

More dogs kill people than wolves. Wolves kill people, yes, but to say a dog isn't savage is utter bullshit. My dog ripped apart a rabbit. Is that not savage?

Ethiopian wolves, I believe, in Africa. They did NOT originate in North America, so there's no way for them to be descendants of the gray wolf, which everyone's all obsessed with protected while Red wolves are out there, critically endangered, getting less help, and honestly, being destroyed by interbreeding.

I see, I see.. But do they still have bonds to gray wolves or not at all An illegal activity done by a person from government pulls more attention and controversy than the endangering of other species.. So yeah.. It's kinda like a fate or something

EarthIce224 In reply to PATotkaca [2013-10-13 12:50:52 +0000 UTC]

Canis lupus rufus, so yes, they are related to the Gray wolf, Canis lupus lupus. It's sad, but I really don't believe that this was perfectly accounted. Wolves don't whelp in the winter, so those that got shot just about had to be old enough to care for themselves, not helpless puppies. It's like deer breeding in summer - they'd give birth in winter, and there's no way that the fawns would make it into spring(When they ARE born). But it is saddening to me - I want to see a live red wolf, but I fear I never will.

PATotkaca In reply to EarthIce224 [2013-10-14 15:30:37 +0000 UTC]

I see, thanks a lot for the information According to the facts, the puppies should be old already.. If I'm not misunderstood, pups are born in Spring and are prepared to live on their own by Winter.. So the news is weird I have never seen wolves in the wild in my whole life.. I've been to a national park where wolves are said to live in, but I didn't see any of them... And I live in a place where wildlife is scarce

EarthIce224 In reply to PATotkaca [2013-10-15 13:41:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, wolves really are quite shy, so really the "OMGWOLVESAREEVIL" propaganda from the 1800's, when wolves nearly went extinct, was kind of unfounded. But honestly I wouldn't trust the news at face value, they often don't know their facts, and even alter them to get a good, sensational story with an obvious bad guy.

For example, I am a rabbit breeder. I have over ninety right now, and I'm taking a few to nationals to show and sell. I honestly feel like I've got a good shot. Now, in my area, recently there was a raid on another breeder's barn - he was a chairman of the Mini-rex club. He would go to nationals, and make no mistake, mini-rex are one of THE most popular breeds. He goes and he wins BOV(he had best of coat color, or variety) at any show he goes to.

In short, he's got one very strong program.

But someone made a complaint about the smell, because, y'know... Rabbits poop and pee(combine that in the summer, and if you miss a tray-cleaning day, your eyes will actually burn - I kid you not). So the humane society came in and took every single rabbit, and in came the news, jumping on this "Heinous case of hoarding", which was completely inaccurate, because a.) as stated, this guy wins BIG. And you don't do that with rabbits if you miss watering them for a day, because they have REALLY delicate coat condition, and B.) He wasn't a hoarder, he was a breeder. The news was claiming there was poop on the walls, and had pictures.

Those shots were of chocolate/black fur. FUR. Have you never seen rabbit poop? Seriously? And they said the fur was matted. Mini-rex don't have guard hairs so, by nature, their fur CANNOT MAT.

So yeah... Don't get too invested in what the news tells yah.

PATotkaca In reply to EarthIce224 [2013-10-16 13:43:47 +0000 UTC]

I see.. I wish I could see them at some point in my life... In my country, news are usually related to politics and economics, sometimes random stuff happening around, but usually they usually sound real enough to not sound 'sensational'...

Reading the case you stated above, news does sound like a bunch of malarkey. But since it's the mass media, people can't help but believe it. What happened to the owner afterwards?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

EarthIce224 In reply to PATotkaca [2013-10-25 22:09:51 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm fairly certain he's still a chairmen of the club, and I've heard that he's sold so many rabbits from his line that he can just go get some from other breeders in the area and it would be like it never happened.

But, you can still lose that ONE rabbit that'll win big, y'know. It's all chance.
