ZackF — Assault Rifle Process

Description This shows the process I used to arrive at my final assault rifle design.

I first made three silhouettes and chose one to develop, then made three mockups of the overall design and chose one to take into 3D. After laying out the general shapes from a flat side view, I started extruding and refining the shapes until I liked the 3D appearance of the gun, both from the side and from looking down its sights. At that point I made a simple render of the 3D mockup and took it back into Photoshop for detailed refinement.

I found clay sculpting and molding by John Brown pretty enlightening, if you haven't already seen it.
