History:

Dilligent was new generation of high speed multi capable ship, capable for short range exploration and surveys as well as combat (hit and run tactics). It was usually deployed with larger ships in new explored sectors for maping and surveying. Due its size it is also capable to land on planet surface if needed.

Diligent is first ship to untilize brand new Type XIII phaser arrays, which have much larger output then Type XII, this new phasers were later installed on all other ships. However, it is not weapons that makes Diligent excellent ship, it is high speed and manuverability unamteched by any other ship in the quadrant. This allows it to scout deep in enemy territory and run before anyone realize it was there. However high speed came at price, it have relativly weak hull and armor, and its shields are main defense line.

While several other types of ships also enter the service, Diligent is definitly one that win over all others (with exception of Magellan class), During Odonan war, several Diligent made a reconissance mission deep in Odonan territory, mission that later end with total victory for Federation as one large battle group destroyed vital Odonan station and severly depleted Odonan resources.

In recent years production of Diligents were cut in half to only six ships per year in favour of new Magellan class, however they were still deployed on all hotspots and area of importance to Federation.
