after a true pasifist ending it became known that sans had a serious medical condition that was terminal. For a long time alphys tried to help sans hold off the side effects but in the end there wasn't anything she could do for him so she asked him if he wanted anything before he died and he said"i want to be with papyrus" and now that he's dead paps keeps his dust in a jar.

Yes, there is. It doesn't show his death, but on zarla's gallery, there's a comic where they're walking up a hill to go stargazing.
Sans starts to feel weak,falls over and tells papyrus he's sorry for not fulfilling his promise of teaching him about constellations.
Then sans falls silent. Papyrus carries him the rest of the way up the hill. Sans has "fallen down", the final stage of a monster's life, where they become comatose and unresponsive.
He would have died shortly after.
