S T O R Y:

Vachir knew there was no point in forcing it. If she wasn't going to develop an interest in humans, he would never be able to get her to listen to his suggestions. After a month of trying, even Vachir started to have doubts. He could see her watching the other horses from her pasture fence every other day, yet contact was almost always initiated by the existing herd, only to be met by rather disrespectful bucking and bolting off. But the fact that she was watching and attentive gave him hope. Sometimes he could even feel his eyes on her when he was in her line of sight, but whenever he would turn around, she'd act like nothing had happened. It was amusing, like a little game.
Already long before the forecast announced it, Vachir could feel it in his bones that a blizzard was coming. He worried, of course, wondering if the shelter they had built on her pasture was going to be enough. Then again, if any of them, she would be the most experienced with such unpleasant weather, wouldn't she? Restless as ever, Vachir was going downstairs to the stables for the fifth time that evening when he heard a loud swoosh followed by an even louder banging of wood and iron hitting stone. Knowing the history and purpose of this place, Vachir proceeded carefully, sneaking along the storage units to the back door only to find - her. The wind was hurling snow across the hall and he couldn't even stop to ask how she could've possibly opened that door.
For once she didn't look hostile. Careful and mistrustful, yes, but showing no sign of aggression, like she was reluctantly asking for shelter. Vachir, still frozen in place, took another couple moments before he dared take a step closer, mumbling soft words. Without intruding on her personal space he walked past her, opening the door to the inner stables. He grabbed a pitchfork and started to shove some hay into one of the boxes, further off from the rest of the horses - he had already prepared one in case one of his nervous troublemakers needed more space in the storm. He nearly flinched when he spotted her sticking her head around the door. He put back the pitchfork and stepped back, all the way back to Tephra's box. And watched the 'newcomer' take her time investigating the space before following the smell of hay into the box. Through a side exit, Vachir was able to return to the hall and strain himself trying to close the large doors against the wind, barely any time to process. Was this really happening?? He returned carefully, and when he reached her box, he decided against closing it - for now. It wasn't like she could get in the way of anybody, wandering about on this level. Instead, he found himself unable to stop smiling - despite his aching back. "So... what do you think of this place now? It's not so bad, right? ...", he spoke softly, leaning against the beam one box away. She yanked her head up with a mouthful of hay, shook her chaotic mane before going straight back down to the food. "Right, better to have such conversations after dinner."

So beautiful, I love her expression, and her mane in the wind.

The story is lovely too, of course Vachir should know better than to interrupt a hungry horse eating her supper xD
