A planet crackled into view, filling the window that was half of the cockpit's convex space-- pink."Inhabitable?" You say.
"93% chance that it is inhabited by intelligent life. You can ignore it though, there are more pressing matters. This universe is filled"
"It seems so."
"what do you propose we do? you are onsite" said the voice. It was your A.I.
As you awoke in your tiny flower-shaped cockpit, a backwards bud hurling through space, you remember very little other than that. This universe was supposed to be one of the blank ones, and you were to fill it.
The ship you pilot is a Seed, in many senses. It has the ability to plunge into any object, of almost any size (absolutes have not been determined), and explore the essence of it. If the ship were to leap into the heart of a galaxy, you would explore stars, black holes, quasars. If you were to leap into the heart of a star, you would explore magnetic surges, energies, nuclear forces and the churning elements. The same is true of a person, an element, or a brain. Objects can be collected from the explored regions of these bizarre forms of space, collected in the form of essence.
This Seed ship can load up pure essence of any type collected by the pilot or the A.I. and inject it, with a blast into any object, altering it. It can fire an essence into empty space, allowing it to become a world of itself, or a universe even.
Upon exploring the essence of a thing, the ship is able to assume that world as if it belonged there, altering it's structure and the pilot so that the fundamental laws of that miniature universe do not expel the intrusion. Only then can you truly explore a universe freely, when altered by it. (to be clear, whenever you enter an object, you change)
But all you can remember is that you were to fill this space with an earth-world, with a solar system to provide a space for people, presumably. You have aboard your ship just that-- Essence of Solar system and all the things within it.
You are not surrounded by empty space. Indeed there is a pink planet, likely inhabited, and billions of twinkling stars. What a disaster.
The A.I., impatient for your decision interrupts you. "Well? What shall we do?"

There is a hiss and the comet-like objects came out in a line of twenty until they were diving down into the atmosphere. "wow, we've already got a sign of life...it looks like the atmosphere is heavy in methane and there is very little oxygen there, just in the outer atmosphere... it looks like we will need to adapt in this things essence if we want to explore the surface. We should zoom in and then save the state before coming back up" it says. "Do you have any questions?"

"What's the dominant lifeforms and civilizations like?"

"It looks like a rich ecosystem filled with unknown organisms in the air, some kind of liquid ocean, and in the ground. The dominant life form, if it exists, is not very populous. We have not spotted the intelligent life yet." it says.

"Which one? the world is teeming with life" says the a.i.

The holographic video appeared in your lap. It was an enormous, flat worm-like creature with jets all along it expelling gas at high volume. "it appears to use breathing for both locomotion and feeding"

"no, it's about three hundred feet long and seven feet wide. It appears to be a top predator"

"Hmm, appears to be dangerous then."

"possibly, using caution would be ideal. yep, there you see it, it inhaled another worm-like creature...they seem to be like jet engines"

"I suggest placing caution on this planet for dangerous fauna."

"Seeing as this is a brand new planet that's a great idea" said the a.i. "I'm sure someone back home will be excited to study it"

"Hopefully they won't return infected with it."

"The infection doesn't appear to be here so far. The last planet's infection is dangerous however" it said.

"I was thinking more like those old movies with the chest bursting aliens or something."

"Oh...yeah things like that might be down there, we can't tell from up here. our probes are continuing to search for the intelligent life. it looks like they live on the surface, but we are not yet sure if they have gone extinct already or not"

"Hmm, effects of bioweapons perhaps?"

"Impossible to know from this vantage. But it looks like we do have a visual on their civilization." A 3d image crackled into existence in your lap, floating like a helium balloon. In the center of the ball was a circle, like a pit perhaps? lightning was extending from the outside to the inside of the pit like spokes of a wheel. "for this to be natural it would be 1 X 10^-90 times less likely than if it were put into place by some intelligence. This may be all that was sending the signal of intelligent life...it's your call what we should do about it" says the a.i. "i can offer suggestions of course"

"I suggest observation from probes."

"Right away" The image grew larger and began to rotate, "should we attempt to go inside? it looks like it is only a large burst of electricity. THese probes can withstand thunder storms easily"

"Just the probes, not us. We need to remain in orbit to prevent messing with the natives."

"this is probably why you were picked for the mission" said the voice. The image grew and rotated as multiple probes joined the expedition-- three in fact. The four of them sank into the electrical spokes. "i'll expand the imagery" said the androgynous voice. The tube expanded to being large around the cabin so it was easy to see. The tube expanded smoothly, like the neck of some pottery, into a large basin of some kind. There was an uneven bottom, covered in some kind of plaster that shined in the probe's light. "this is most unexpected. what on earth could the purpose of those spokes be?" crackled the a.i.

"could be, this seems like there is rubble under that...surface" the probes got closer to it and a few pings of sonar rang out. "it's solid material of some kind over rocks." said the a.i. simply.

"We can drill cores, and haul with our nets"

The operation took less than a half hour until the ceramic-like structure was hit. The plastic-like substance was being analyzed, the rubble cleared. "it appears this rubble is organic matter. The substance that covers it makes for a very very slow digestion." the drones were showing drainage pores. "somewhere down in there the nutrients are used." there were several exits other than through the electric spokes, all at irregular, organic intervals in the ceramic.

"Interesting. Some sort of shell perhaps?"

"perhaps" said the A.i. "it could be that this is in fact alive" a pointer appeared highlighting the spokes, the walls, the tunnels and the "plastic" that had covered the organic matter.

I get the probe out. "Nope, for all we know that's the intestines."

The probes cluster together int he main room. "this would be the stomach then, by that theory?"

"processing an idea." the holos flickered. "if this is an intelligent being, the intelligent form of life on this planet, we must devise a test to see how it is intelligent. if it is not intelligent, we could use the data since it is still reading as high-civilization life."

"How strange. Start the scans for brainwaves."

"Oh, it looks like it's pinging alright. this is most unusual" You see the gourd shaped area pinging with something similar to theta brain waves. The exact location seems to be hard to pinpoint. "we are probably looking at a form of life that is not found on earth, whereas the kind above are like our predatory fish or insects or something, this is most unusual..."

"it could be. or to this form of life it is totally awake? we don't even know if it has different phases of wakefulness" sputtered the a.i. The probes whirled around. "should we get out? or do you think we should try to contact it?"

"I say get out. Don't want this to wake up and make damages."

"roger" said the a.i. The picture shifted to outside of the spokes again. "fascinating world, sir"

"Should we stay and try to make contact with the life form or move on?"

"Excellent choice" said the A.i. the probes flew back and reinstalled themselves in the Seed. "It's still a mystery how this universe is totally filled. It also concerns me that there was an essence infection... perhaps this universe is corrupted, sir" said the androgynous voice.

"Wouldn't that corrupt us too?"

"We are certainly in danger of being corrupted. We may already be corrupted, in fact. But we also have no idea how this infection spreads. It could be from us for all we know" the A.i. let the last thought hang. "I hope my systems weren't compromised before hte mission began..."

"Exit the universe?" The a.i. clicked. "We certainly can, but to do so would be a mission failure. It might be worht it though"
