Description
You decided to take a class at the new school that popped up in the woods.Upon arrival you notice there are no buildings except a few, but most of the classes take place in the outdoors.
There are crafting that are outdoor, as well as classroom seating (though the seats are made of wood, stone, and sometimes chiton)
In order to enroll, you have to go through the beginner's class, which involves being assisted by the teachers in learning the basics of shapeshifting. like beginning swimming lessons, they will aid you in every part of your learning, and if necessary will walk you through it. The process is very hands-on.
Enrollment is free, as long as you volunteer for chores. Chores include: Cleaning the outdoor pools, guiding the trails for visitors, cleaning, maintenance, and being a tutor for those who are gifted.

(This is a TF RP, but I veer away from mature. Please honor that. Also if you have a character you want to transform into or rp, I might not want to. just depends on the character)

As you arrive, you notice that it's very hot, like sauna in there and people are all seated on wooden benches. THere are guys and girls ages thirteen to somewhere in their twenties by the looks of things. You also notice there are people who have no hair, people who are covered in hair and have pointed ears, people with scales. it's a strange environment. The teacher hasn't arrived yet. You notice some people have already changed into swimsuits and many others haven't changed.

I've decided that I'm just going to go in my underpants. Can't really use a swimsuit I don't have.
I feel very insecure. I almost laugh at that thought. I'm the most ordinary person here and that makes me insecure!
Well, hopefully, this class will help change that...
I sit down and wait for the teacher. Three minutes until class starts

"Is this your first time?" came a small voice from next to you. A girl with a lip piercing and green hair sat low, her posture low. Her hair was shaved on one side and she had bright pink eyes. "you have that look..." she smiled gently.

"Yeah, this is my first time. I want to see if I have any actual skill in shapeshifting. Never tried it before." I realize I hadn't even introduced myself. "Name's Cambus. What's yours?" I ask, hand extended

"Felicia" she said, taking your hand in hers. She calmly looked around until a guy sat down on the other side of you, very thin and skinny, but with a youthful energetic face. He was just wearing his swimsuit. "so you guys gonna get dressed?" Felicia didn't say anything, just pulled her shirt off and she was wearing her swim suit underneath. She grinned. You could see that she had fangs.

"I don't have a swimsuit," I say. "Do I just strip right here?" I know that I probably should, it's just something I would much rather avoid

The guy gulps and nods, feeling embarrassed for you. "you can wait until we have to if you want. who knows, we might not even have time for you to get transformed. unless you want to volunteer!" he smiled.
The teacher finally came in, a short woman with sunglasses seated on her short hair. She looked rather like a yoga instructor, in her style of clothing and demeanor. "alright everyone, let's start by getting into groups. We're going to do groups of four, unless we have an odd number and then we'll have to do a group of three." she counted quickly. There were 35 students in the large lodge. "let's do a few groups of three" she pointed to you and your two other seat-mates, as well as another couple of groups. "pick among you someone who will be sculpted first. today we're going to work on softening and hardening. We might push some flesh around as well, but work on softening and hardening first, okay?"

I look at Felicia and the other guy I was with. "Can one of you guys be the first one? I'd like to learn how to do it before I get, um, sculpted." It's so weird to say these words out loud, as I had never used them in this context before.

The guy nodded. "alright, lady's first" he motioned to the girl. she motioned back to him with a nod. "nah, go for it. I haven't drunk much water and I'd rather help this guy here" she put her hands on your shoulders. She had a rather strong grip for such a petite person!
The guy shrugged and laid down on the wooden table, face down, his head facing one side. he closed his eyes. The girl let go. "okay, the teacher wants us to do exercises basically in softening and hardening, so we can just start right away. First of all, this one is done with sculpting oil." she had a strange looking gourd of it and unslung it from her shoulder, placing it in front of you. "pour that on your hands and it will easily convey your intention to soften or harden parts of his body as you touch them. Start with softening him up, okay?" she stood right next to you, one hand on her chin, her other hand holding her elbow. STudents all around were quiet, with a low chatter all around. This was a large group, but it was surprisingly peaceful.

I do as she says, pouring the oil on my hands and rubbing it in so that my hands were covered in it. I look over at the guy on the table and think about where to try first. Probably his arm. It seemed like if there were any changes, I'd notice.
I then put my hands on his left arm and squeeze, intending to soften it as I do so.
(I did want him to be naturally talented at the basics but I guess you decide how successful he is)

As you squeezed he said, "ow...haha" and the girl gently said, "don't go so deep right away. imagine that you are warming this spot up. it would take time, right? Let it happen slowly" she apparently delighted at watching you work because although her face was totally serious and one of deep concentration, she had a slight smile and her eyes sparkled.

I take my hands off and see that the skin was softened. So I could do it. I continue working over his arm, still trying to work with haste but working softer this time. "Never learned your name," I tell him as I move up towards his shoulder. "What is it?"

He sighed as you got the hang of it. "bastion...uh...still a little intense there"
As you went, you noticed that his arm now felt like clay. It was stiff, but movable, shapable.

"Sorry, I like moving fast. Habit from work," I say in an apologetic tone. And Bastion's a cool name. Always liked his it sounded." I keep on softening his arm, feeling kind of proud that I'm doing this. "My name's Cambus."
I turn to Felicia. "Do I do anything with Bastion's arm, now that I've softened it? Or do I keep going?"

"Oh haha thanks" he said, he face squished into the board. "I like it. And wow Cambus is a cool name. is that a family name?" he seemed genuinely interested, but also super relaxed.
Felicia cut in gently in almost a whisper, "you could try sculpting him if you like, but the exercise is just softening and hardening. why not try sculpting his arm and then harden it into place? he sure to leave his joints intact so he can move his arm" she said.

"Alright, I'll try that." I go to his hand and try to mold it into the shape of a paw, but one that could still grip things. I work slower on that because I want to make sure every detail is right. "You don't happen to have a brush on you, do you?" I ask Felicia. "Like a painting brush. I don't need any paint."
I then answer Bastions question. "And it's a name from some mythology. I really liked it. Sounds kind of Roman in my opinion."
(I'm trying to give him the arm of an anthropomorphic cat... and the brush is for trying to make fur. Is that okay?)

"oooh...hey Cambus, seems like you're getting the hang of it, I can already feel it changing" he said.
"Cambus, that's from 'hardening' happening automatically. You have chosen a shape and as you sculpt the oil allows you soften the subject in your hands, then firm up into the shape you intend. You don't have to be letting him change or "harden" if you don't want to. If you give yourself more time, you can make more elaborate shapes without the change taking place so quickly. The soft form of his flesh is less of a real form, more of a model. does that make any sense at all?" she shook her head, smiling to herself.
As you worked, you notice that the paw began to flex and claws came out in a few places, even where you hadn't shaped yet. It was as if the flesh had gotten the memo and was doing part of the work for you. His hand began to shrink a little, gaining pads, and fur spread along his arm like foam expanding. "ahh that always feeels weird haha" Strangely, you noticed that his voice sounded different. It sounded like it had a slight growl to it.
"If you keep it soft longer, you can 'teach' the oil and the flesh what you want." She nodded to herself.

"That actually makes more sense than I care to admit," I say. in response to Felicity's comment.
I look down at his changing arm, then decide on a new course. "You're going to look very asymmetrical with only one animal arm," I say. "This one looks good. I think I can be proud of this one. Now, Felicity? Can you help me with this next one? I want to learn about those things you were talking about. The 'teaching the oil and flesh' thing."

As you set the other hand down, you noticed that the fur was slowly spreading up his arm, but it slowed down even more. Strangely, his ears had begun to get a point and he had fangs forming. "haha, would you make up your mind?" he joked.
Felicity nodded. "'kay. now. he's firm over there. try softening up his other arm or some other part of his body, but instead of thinking about what animal it is like, try shaping it into something that isn't anything at all. something abstract, like just a shape. As soon as you start to think. "oooh this kind of looks like a ...fin...or a ...wing, then take your hands off. Clear your head and think about the shape you are making instead of the animal or thing you are making him into." She smiled. "I'll tell you more as you go."

"Alright, but as I'm working on the softening of his arm..." I gesture towards Bastion's head. "Why's he getting changes in other parts of his body? I wasn't really focusing on those parts." I continue with on softening his still-human arm, but also trying to form the basic shapes I want as I do so. Like wetting clay and sculpting it at the same time.

She nods. "that is the effect of hardening. The body is eager to match the oil user's intent. You didn't mean to change his head, but the whole body responds to body sculpting. That's why you want to keep things soft for as long as you can. If you had given him eagle feathers, he might have very good vision right now."
Suddenly the teacher interjected. "very good felicia, Cambus you are asking the right questions. Also keep in mind that this form of transformation is very difficult to keep stable. Hardening is stabilizing. If you leave him that way, he'll keep changing, but much slower than if you had made his entire arm cat-like. Each change you make while his form is 'soft' is like a shove in a direction, and he'll keep going in that direction as he hardens. And she's right, keeping your intention vague while you work, though hard, is important if you want to make more elaborate works of art." she held up a limp rats tail she apparently had sculpted somehow. probably with an assistant. At the tip of the tail was a christmas ornament with glitter on it. You noticed then that she had slightly buck teeth and sparkles on her face, her nose slightly darkened. She was barely affected by her extremely elaborate sculpting at all. "I'm showing this as an example of what's possible! keep it up guys!" she patted you on the shoulder, and kept walking.

I watch her go, then realize that Bastion's arm had begun to harden so I go back to softening it. "Okay. So keep things vague...I don't really understand what that means. Like yes, to create abstract shapes would be one thing, but how am I supposed to keep it vague? At the moment, I'm just trying to give him a feline arm. No real species in mind, but how do I get even less specific than that? And how does that mean elaborate?" I ask Felicia as I continue working on Bastion.
I do feel rather happy that I'm doing something right. But I want to be better at it.

(so, if it's hardening, it means it is changing into something or changing back to it's original form. "soft" just means you can shape it manually and nothing automatic has started yet)
"Keep things vague. So that refers to what you do with your mind. Keep your mind focused on the shape of what you are making, rather than the 'what'. It takes a little practice, but you'll get it. and when you mess up, just take your hand off before things harden and try again."
"about the elaborate thing she made...she created multiple unrelated shapes-- the ornament, the rat tail, and did you notice that the ornament wasn't rat-like? neither was the rat-tail ornament-like. So she created something with detail, keeping things from bleeding into each other. it takes a lot of mastery to do that." she sighed.

"Alright. I'll... I'll try to keep those things in mind," I say as I continue working on his arm. "And keeping things vague will create less... inertia? That's the best word I can think of."

She nodded. "yeah that's a good way to put it. Now, you don't want the shapes you are making to be vague though, because then you'll end up with abstract shapes for arms"
"hey, wha...what are you guys doing to me anyway?"
"shhh...anyway, just focus on one part at a time and then when you want to finish, you can think about how you wanted it to look altogether and to a few sweeping touches on him and he'll firm up without blending everything together too much."

"Abstract is bad, got it. So... keep the ideas vague, but not shapes. Little too late for this one..." I notice that his other arm is now starting to sprout fur, so I take my hands off and see how far the inertia will take it. "I'll have to try that out the next time I sculpt something. You feeling okay, Bastion?"

The fur spread a little ways but stopped a few seconds after you took your hands off.
"ooh that tickles." he said. "I'm doing fine. This is niiice" he said, rubbing his cheek against the bench.
"So, while your hands are off...what ARE you making his other arm into? it won't hurt now that your hands are off" felicia said, interested.

"Same as the other one. I was going to just leave him with one feline arm, but I like things to be symmetrical," I say before going back to sculpting.

"oh that makes sense. you must be an artist" she said smiling.
Working his flesh wasn't too different from sculpting clay, but you could still feel the bones and the tendons and veins. It was weird. The flesh could be moved around so easily, but somehow it didn't get too gross with veins popping out. For the most part you could sculpt whatever you wanted, although you couldn't make things larger. you could take things away though. Felicia had a plate for you to put the extra flesh-clay into.

"I am. I even draw some transformation stuff in my spare time. One of the reasons I applied here."
I look over and see somebody grabbing a bit of flesh and pulling it out. It separates easily, and the small glob gets put on a plate. I shudder. "That's what the plate is for?" I ask Felicia as I gesture over to the group I was just looking at. "That just looked so weird..."

She shrugged. "it's just like clay now. You can add it anywhere you want or just keep it off. There's more over there" she pointed to a large pot on the side near the back of the room. Someone was carefully carrying a lump from it in a dish. "the dish is just for convenience"

"I was wondering how the teacher managed to sculpt the tail..." I muse as I start adding the finishing touches to the other arm, since it is all but complete. "Still doesn't really feel like clay. Feels like clay with a harder material inside of it, with harder material inside of that."

Felicia nodded, "you're really getting the hang of it. yeah, I'd say it's only sort of like clay. if you expect clay, then it might be really weird to touch." she poked Bastion.

Class was beginning to wrap up by the looks of things.

"Thanks..." I say before finally finishing Bastion up and letting his arm harden. After a second, I snap right next to his now feline ear, watching it twitch. "I'm done now. Let's have a look at you," I tell him, shaking his shoulder.

As he sat up, you noticed that his face was somewhat prognathus and he had some whiskers and his eyes had a somewhat feline shape to them, although not the irises yet. He opened his mouth to show off his sharp teeth and you could also notice that his swimming trunks had a bulge in the back where a tail had begun to form and then slowed down. His paws looked perfect and he had fur up both arms and some of it mixed with the meager hair on his chest.

"I did really good!" I say, surprised at how Bastion turned out. "I mean, you look really good. Although the face is a bit strange... if I had time I'd try to fix it... sorry," I say, beginning to doubt my skills again.

He laughed, but also ended up purring a little and then laughed about that.
Felicia also laughed, and then looked over at the approaching teacher, who had reverted herself to normal. "To turn back you can do one of two things: you can either let him be and it will wear off in a few hours, depending on how much sculpting you did. If it was a full body sculpt, then he would take a day and a half to two days. The other option is you could do a chakra release." She touched Bastion. "Bastion is it? Which do you prefer?"
"Um...to be honest, the last time I did a chakra release it was really painful and I reverted, but it felt like I was shocked...I'll just let it wear off if that's okay"
"Suit yourself then" said the teacher, and nodded to felicia and you and then said as she walked away, "good work today Cambus" (it is cambus, right?)

"Thank you. Um, excuse me, I have a question," I say to the teacher. "Earlier, when I was getting registered, I was asked for a preferred chore, but I wasn't actually given one. When will I get my assignment?"

She smiled, "oh that's funny. I honestly am not in charge of that. But it could be that all the chores are filled up. maybe there was an excess of students? Anyway, I'd suggest asking someone here at the lodge at the front desk. Or just go help out whoever you want. I'm sure it would be appreciated if you did that" she winked.

"Okay. Thanks." I wave goodbye, then head to the front desk. "Hello..." I say to the people working there. "I was told to come here to see if I had any chores that I needed to do. The name's Cambus."

The guy at the front desk was the surfer dude who had brought you to your dorm before. He looked like he had been plucking an eyebrow when you approached. "oh hey, I hope you got settled in"
"Cambus, that's right...let's see...to be honest it looks like you haven't been assigned a chore. If you want, you can roam around after classes and help whoever you feel like. We have a few floaters like that. But if you really want a position, I would write a petition..." he handed you a slip of paper and a pen. "just turn it in whenever and we'll review it...well the headmaster will review it and then we'll put you someplace where you should be, okay?"

"I did get pretty settled, thanks. Just finished my first class."
"Thanks," I say, taking the paper. "I still have a few questions, though. Why are there so few people here? I don't think there are 200 students attending classes based off of what I've seen so far. And will I be able to leave the school? Like if I wanted to go to church or anything?"

He scratched his head. "uh...to be honest I have no idea how to answer that. We've had people leave temporarily yeah. You can leave but usually it's older students. YOu might need a petition for that too" he handed you another form. "And yeah there are a lot of students here. We have several thousand students attending. It's just spread out over the entire mountain range. Also students will go on fieldtrips for several weeks at a time." He shrugged.

"So most of the students aren't even here, they're in other places? Man, I can't imagine what this place must look like with all of them here..." I take the two forms in my hands.

"Sometimes that happens. Well, if we have a conference. But that hasn't happened in over ten years" he said shrugging again. You noticed that he had a tattoo on his forehead, but it was just a dot. There was another dot on his throat, also very small, but they lined up just right. He handed you linen bag of something and leaned over the counter. "to be honest, you look a little tense. Go to a class or skip the day if that's your thing. Either way, go have fun on me k?" he motioned to the bag and winked, then looked around to see if anyone had seen and waved you off.

I look nervously at the bag. "Well, thanks." I then walk out. My next planned class didn't start for nine hours... I go to my dorm and inspect the bag's contents.

You notice the bag is filled with candy balls covered in crystal and powder. It smells really sweet. There are enough in the bag that there is at least three of every color but some of them have more.

I go sort them out into the different colors. While I do so, my curiosity grows. What were these things supposed to do? Why'd he look nervous when giving them to me?
I figured I'll just have one green candy, just to see what'll happen.
