Description
You enter a small room whose door was surrounded by mirrors. Inside, the door is shut-- as if you had shut the door the instant you came in. But as a simple rule, you were stuck inside the moment you stepped in.Now the floor is wet and there in the center is a creature unlike any you have seen before. She (for it is easy to see from the feeling it gives off that it is a she) beckons you to come forward, hands you an amulet, a tentacle-like wing-like pincher-like hand-like appendage placing it around your neck. The gloom and wetness of the room seem to clean up as soon as she does so and you hear a brilliant voice fill your head.
"I give you this now because I know what is to come. Tomorrow you will be spared among the human race. The world will be cleansed in a very efficient way and you must not be removed from it. Endure. Survive. Have joy."
And then you wake up. You can't remember how you got to that room whose doorway is framed in mirrors any better than you can remember if it's door was ever open after you entered. You simply wake in your bed, listening to the news.
Downstairs you hear your family frightened by the broadcast, and you can hear a sound coming from the sky. It sounds like birds chirping mixed with snapping, grunting, and the slip slip of fins all at once. It's a horrible, wonderful, disgusting, exciting sound. And much of it now is coming from the throats of your family members and from the windows of neighbors.
But you are in bed. What do you do?

"Urgh..."
Alright, this is getting weird... What the hell was that dream anyway... Surely it's not real. Though, just to be sure, I look around for the amulet I was given in the dream, after feeling for it around my neck.
"Mom? Dad? You alright down there?"
Hearing only bird calls, and dog barks in response... my blood goes cold... this... this is really happening.

While you feel at your neck, you notice the weight of the chain, the coldness of the amulet against your chest. There was a crash outside, and a car alarm was going crazy. Then another one. You could hear cars a moment ago, or so you thought. Now it seemed like a distant thing that you were on the other side of. The sound of cars outside was absent. Downstairs you could hear a crash.

"What the hell is going on down there..."
I grab some of the stuff lying around my room, hopefully including a pocket knife and a reasonably sized bag, before carefully making my way down stairs... Why the hell did that... alien, select me to not see this fate? I mainly hope our car isn't broken yet... since I can drive it, mostly. It might be the only way out of this mess... and with decent cargo space, It can serve as a mobile home... before going into the living room, I look through our camping supplies, looking for a sleeping bag, before finally looking into the living room, and what's left of my family.

As you scrounge around, you notice that the sliding glass door in the living room is shattered and a breeze is rushing through, rustling and jumbling the papers that had been stacked on the table. Now they were scatted everywhere. But that wasn't the worst of it-- the coffee table was broken and so was a lamp that had been knocked over. Luckily it hadn't caused a fire. You notice that there are animal tracks in the carpet and scratches in the screen that had been pushed out onto the porch. The neighborhood sounds like a zoo, but there are no sounds of traffic, or people. Your house appears to be empty, your family gone.

Ok... what the hell?
"Mum?"
This... holy hell, what is going on? Ok... one kitchen knife, check. One broom handle... check. If the kitchen knife has a wooden handle, this will be easy, with a few screws and an electric drill... but if not, a few rolls of ductape will do. What am I trying to make? A spear... a weapon giving me some reach over those who would wish me harm in melee combat... it won't be pretty, but damn, I'll be happy I have one... next order of business is to fix up the light, unplug it from the wall... I might still be able to use this place as a home, despite the mess that's been made here... radio, pretty sure we still have one of those... once I've finished with my previous two tasks, I look for it, switching it on, and looking for any stations that might still be transmitting, see if I can find any useful information. If not, there should be an emergency broadcasting station, that will be on loop, that should hopefully give me some information.

As you finish your preparations and you have your only slightly ghetto spear (the handle was made of wood), you notice the radio does something odd when you move around it. When you get close to it, there is a humming sound. And whne you walk away, it goes back to silence. There are some channels playing music, and one that has the weather automatically read off in a robotic voice (one of those gross AM stations), but you notice that there isn't any sign of human life. It's as if whatever happened, happened in an instant and there was no time to prepare.
You notice your amulet is glowing red. It does happen to have a red hue naturally, but for some reason it was glowing now.

Ok... aerodrome terminal information's still working, good for knowing what's happening weather wise... I see if there's a channel playing some classical music, and leave it on that, before investigating the amulet further... and the weird hum that it's putting off. First... how far away do I have to be before it doesn't affect the radio? And, is that somehow tied to the glow? Red is usually bad... but since it started red, I think I'll be ok... is this even real? I have no way to tell... if it isn't, then it's awfully life like simulation, including pain, hunger, thirst, and so on... so for now, assuming it's real, I get one life... great. If DayZ is any indication of how humanity will react to this crisis, then we are doomed... At some point, I figure, what harm could it possibly do, and cup my hands around the glowing amulet, leaving the spear on the kitchen table.

You find that you can be seven feet away from the radio before it stops causing the hum. The glow seems to be constant at this point. The more you experiment with this, the more the glow increases. You notice as you cup your hands around the amulet that it's easier to see what's on the surface of it. There's a line followed by a single dot and it seems to point in the same direction no matter which direction you are facing.

"Hmm? Some sort of compass, maybe..."
Remaining inside, I check the time, and the location of the sun... if it's morning, I know that's east. Afternoon, it's west. Using that, I can find north, and see if it matches up with this weird arrow.

"Not bad, not bad at all... though a little superfluous... and glowy"
(If it's pointing to something other than what might be north)
"Like the compass in the pirate's of the Caribbean... but I doubt it's pointing to what I want most... it is, however, the only idea for where I should go... not much left for me here"
In either case, I begin scrounging around for the car keys, some extra rations of food, but more water, preferably filling up a plastic blue Jerry or two, and loading up the car with whatever else I find, includding the spear... This amulet is not coming off, if it's all that's stopping what happened to the rest of my family from happening to me...

You find that indeed the amulet is pointing in the direction of downtown. As you load up the car, you notice there is something in the distance, like a line of smoke moving through the air rapidly. Like a smokey laser. There's also, in addition to the sound of animals and the smell, now, of dung, you hear a metallic sound that it almost music like, but also a bit like construction equipment in the distance. As you go back and forth, you come close to the radio that's on a few times and your amulet seems to glow brighter each time. Finally, in a burst, you notice the pointer becomes very clear without having to cup your hands.

Hmm... I think I'll have more than enough to go into the city for a little while... here's hoping there's plenty of fuel. If not... I can always find a push bike... what on... no, that is no sound of earth... neither is that near lightning bolt in the sky. There's no time to waste, and with an indicator telling me where to go, I guess I'll get in the car, start it up if I can, and begin heading downtown. If not, pushbike... either way, I'll get going downtown one way or another, making sure to bring the spear with, just in case I need it. Now... let's tune us some classical music... ABC's always had a good selection, I hope that continues to be the case. Just gotta figure out why this compass thing is telling me to downtown... I need answers, and there is likely the best place to find them.

*After I wake up, I head downstairs not knowing where the grunts were coming from but they were close* "mom, dad are you okay? you didn't get any pets while I was asleep did you?" I ask after hearing all the animal noises as I head downstairs shocked at what I saw when I got there

As you run downstairs you notice that the amulet you were wearing in your dream was still around your neck, dangling there. You hear that intense sound bellowing through the sky again and your insides begin to churn (pick a letter randomly twice, I'm going to decide on a random creature for you to turn into . don't worry, it's temporary). You can hear your mom yelling and then her voice shifts to the sound of a donkey and you hear dishes breaking.

I go to see what's happening to my mom "mom are you okay I'm coming!!" I say worried as I head towards where her voice was coming from hoping to find out what was happening to her and why she is making donkey noises as I'm confuse at what she is doing(d and g)

As you round the corner, you see her clutching her stomach, bent over. Her rear end presented a tail and she looked up sweating, her face growing more and more prognathous, her teeth squeaking as they scraped and grew against each other to grow larger. She tried to hold it in but then let out another "hee haw!" and her hands began shaping into hooves. Just as she was completed her transformation to become a donkey, you noticed your skin beginning to become extremely bumpy, black and yellow, a lump expanding on your rear end that was quite ugly and hung down, pushing against your pants. Your face began to lose it's expressiveness as it pushed into a strange wide gaze and your nose flatted away.

"what's happening to me" I say now confused as I keep changing now scared at what's happening to me as I just saw my mom turned into a donkey in front of my eyes as tears came down my eyes as she was a full donkey (so what animal am I turning into since so far I don't know)

As you transformed, you noticed your hands turn into claws, your "tail" expand and grow fatter and longer. You could feel your mouth fill with the weight of sharp teeth and your frame shrank, causing your clothing to become loosened. Soon you were out of them, falling to the floor, your hips, shifting and shrinking, your shoulders as well. The tail grew fatter and pointier, your whole body full of bumps and scales. You were a Gila monster (I've seen them inthe wild!). But your amulet glowed and you could feel the voice of the entity who spoke to you in the dream. "Focus on the amulet and wish yourself back to normal!" she said.

"okay"*I say as I try to focus on the amulet hoping I could return to being a human so I wouldn't be an animal so I can stay a full human before it was too late as I wish myself back to normal like the voice of the entity said hoping she wasn't lying or tricking me.*

As you focus on being a human again, you notice your other family members around you coming into the room. They don't recognize you, since you're a Gila Monster, but they also wouldn't have been paying attention since they are all turning into various animals. It's like a zoo in there. Your dad is turning into an elephant, for example. It doesn't take long before they are all completely turned and the window is broken and they are outside. Your focus begins to feel sustained by the amulet, like you are getting help in focusing, and then you were swelling. There was a lot of fluid and you expanded into a clear-red bubble of ooze, your body stretching inside. With all the extra room in that bubble, your body quickly regained it's human shape with the sensation that felt like a soft-drink bubbling throughout your body and all over your skin. The bubble burst and you were laying there, a human again, covered in ooze.

"that's better but still what's going on? I better not be still dreaming because this is kind of turning to a nightmare" I say now confuse on what's happening as I see all of my family members are full animals "hey voice if your still listening can you tell me what's going on?"

As you spoke to the voice, you could hear it speak back, but inside your mind. "There's been an...event. You need to get to the local mall. It's only three miles from where you are. If you take a car though the watchers will spot you. They are policing everywhere right now to make sure all humans have been eliminated. You will need to make your way carefully without looking suspicious. Once you make it to the mall, I can speak to you face to face and I can give you what you need. If I came to you the watchers would stop me. Please understand, you must get to me." The amulet had a tiny pointer on it now that lit up, pointing in the direction of the mall.

"okay so I need to get there with out being detected but how?" I then wonder if the amulet can help me blend in as I look at my family members to see what animals they are so maybe I can attempt to focus on turning into that animal*

"I recommend turning into an animal that you can get here quickly as. Please understand that the sooner you get here the better. At this moment, all of humanity is being transformed, and that includes your body. But the amulet is holding that at bay. In order to tip the scale in favor of one form or another, you only need to touch the animal."

"okay well I guess I'll turn into one of the animals that my family turned into" I know that my mom is now a donkey and my dad got turned into an elephant but I also wanted to see what my sibling got turned into before I choose. (also forgot to mention during the first post that my character is female)

Your brother got turned into a bat and is currently hanging from the branches of the apple tree. You can hear a lot of animal sounds out and about but it's strange because it's pandemonium out there. It literally sounds like a zoo but on a huge scale. Traffic is silent, but you can hear windows breaking and snorting and calls and roaring and squawking all over the place.

"well I guess I have no choice but to turn into an animal" *I go over to my mom who was now a donkey since that would at least be the fastest on land and not too small to fall prey to big birds as I start to feel the changes happening*

Once you touch her, you feel the wave rush out from your finger tips down to your toes, which merged forcefully and hardened, pushing you up a couple inches in height. The wave then bounced back up your legs and along your body, shaping your body in a tightening, expanding fashion as your muscles and bones grew simultaenously. You could feel your teeth expand, which made a creaking sound and your face pushed outward into a donkey face. Soon you feel forward and were 100%donkey, except you retained your human mind. "You are different from the animals, your mind is actually stored in this amulet. So protect it at all costs! Don't let the watchers see it if they come near or they will get suspicious awfully quick!" said the voice.

"right" I say as I head outside avoiding the watchers while continuing to the mall hoping I can get there without having to change too much as I avoid interacting with any other animals making sure my amulet is hidden*

As you step out from the fenced in area around your house to the road, you notice immediately that the neighborhood is completely abandoned and there are animals everywhere. There are also things in the distance. They look like giant beetles with long tendrils coming out of their mouths and they seem to have a glowing red spot on them. Your arrow points you to go down town, into the bigger buildings. The mall is apparently in a sky scraper. However, you can see as you trot along between abandoned vehicles that there are these giant beetles (which are about the size of trucks, but their legs allow them to crawl on the sides of buildings) crawling on the sides of the mall when you near it. They seem to be scanning the area.

*I try to see if there is another way to get into the mall that way I can avoid the beetles and avoid getting scanned as I keep myself hidden from them hoping there was also some animals I can shift between to get into the mall*

You notice there are animals everywhere. It's hard to tell though if the bugs in the air were humans or if they are natural. There are ants on the sidewalk as well. A cat walks close enough that you would have to avoid it to not have it rub up against you. There is a rhinocerous nearby drinking from a broken fire hydrant that has formed a sort of fountain nearby. Strangely, there is a fish swimming through the air near you, looking very confused.

I touch the cat with my hoof as I don't want to crush the ant and the rhino is way too big to sneak pass the beetles as I start to feel the changes happening again

The hoof splits as you touch the cat and you can see your fur fluffing up. The hoof splits again and again, the hard parts shrinking until they are just claws on a soft piece of furry flesh with soft pads on the bottom. The same begins to happen to your other hoof and then the other and the other. The change proceeds up your legs, shrinking you down. You shift to becoming a male cat, unexpectedly, and then the changes proceed upward until your ears are totally triangular and your nose is a little pink one. Your whiskers shot out and you were a cat. The other one looked at you, confused and then ran off, seeing an exact copy of itself.

*I then try to sneak by the beetles hoping not to be spotted as I get inside the mall hoping to find out where you are at*

You notice that the beetle creatures have a glowing red spot on them that looks very similar to the amulet you have on. One of the watchers looks in your direction, it's red beam scanning nearby. You notice that the doorway to the mall is not open. It's not locked either, but to get in you would need to push harder than a cat can push.

*I go back into hiding hoping I can find another entrance that I can get into so I can avoid the beetles* (sorry this one is short)

You find a garbage can close to a corner and since you are a black kitty it's hard for the Watchers to see you. You can hear them clicking as they walk, but onlyl when they get really close. One stops above you, looking around, and moves on. You notice that there is grate in the ground. You could go in through the sewer. Or you could fly up and into a vent. Or you could push the door open as a larger animal.

As you go to the grate, you notice that it's just barely too small for a cat to sneak in.
