Description
Ahead Radio8 x 12 in lith print in cyan
2005
Fascinated with boring shit like E towers. Made this, while stopping to receive a call on a very early morning on my way to NYC. Was misty and snowy.
To make a good lith print is not really working with the best chemistry or paper, they have dedicated papers and shit that sell pretty well, considering the "alternative" market, but I use ilford fiber for mine, and mix it with some cyan/selenium toners, the results are something I really covet.
I made this a panel for some dude, I remember I had to buy like...buckets of liquid to print it, and I ended up spending more than he bought it for, but when I saw it in his office, I really liked it, he did give me a nice bottle of Cognac for my little oops in pricing.
SEE
A backstory PLUS some tips on lith.
I'm not an asshole, right? :/
I hate the category this is in, but no where else to put it.

you know, despite all it's adorable flaws it's still some fantastic conceptual art. i think i'm going to feature this in my weekly buttlight.

I love the texture of the background, and the colours. It looks like the tower is standing in the middle of a mysterious, foggy field. I love the mood to this print.

I really like the ambiance of this image,I always find pylons to be so obtrusive but this looks as if it belongs..wonderful harmonious color

Ours that are close by are in amongst buildings so nothing really photogenic no matter what type of weather it is.

just put it in traditional/lino until someone figures it out.
beautiful colours, how huge was the finished product that he hung up in the office?

was a six foot panel, on one sheet. I love doing large panels, but they take up so much liquid

that's awesome, i could hardly imagine something i created with film being so huge!
have you done many large panels like that?

I used to do panels, they are fun if you don't have to pay for materials, but they can be a hassle if you don't have the room to process them. It's like any large printing press, you need LOTS OF AIR
People generally don't want panels anymore, since they can get digital print canvases for much much cheaper, then again these people never seen a large panel, so they don't realize how retarded and screwed they are.
HI

but how much does it cost for such a large panel? and how many litres of liquids are we talking about?
there must still be a certain percentage of the population who want chemistry based works of art, and not some dot for dot translation of colors and shapes right?

I don't recall exact price, talking about 2 gallons of liquid, or like 7 or so liters. Not awesome when you buy certain developers by the 1/2 pint.

shit, that's heaps... i was imagining 2-3liters.
what was the panel made of? is it just "normal" paper laid out or glued onto a panel of metal/wood, or is it a hard surface treated with an emulsion?

normal fiber paper, when you buy in bulk they come in sheet rolls, so it's easy to cut and use what you need. I mounted the whole print on heavy board laminate.

ok, i guess soaking some huge metallic panel in various liquids would be a little bit too much, thans for the info... it's interesting listening to what one can do with this whole light and chemical spielerei.
