Description Un Pterodactylus qui se demande qu'est-ce que ce truc peut être, un truc qui s'avère être l'image que beaucoup de gens ont du "Ptérodactyle".

A Pterodactylus who wonders what this thing can be, a thing that is the image that a lot of people have about the "Pterodactyl".

Well actually that is what some Pterodactyls look like and some can even stand on their hind legs.

The hands and feet are quite inaccurate for pterosaurs, it's body is too human-like, it lacks fuzz, forked tongue and a wrong wing structure.
Besides, no pterosaur so far known would really do that too often, they would walk and take off quadrupedally.

So no, no known pterosaur looks like that.

Asuma17 In reply to Corallianassa [2017-01-14 20:55:01 +0000 UTC]

Of course ~ T_T

Besides the lack of pycnofibers, probably wings. We can't say for sure if Pteranodon or some other pterosaurs didn't have a forked tongue, birds today have similar tongue structure. So is it wrong to say Pterosaurs didn't either?

As for your fact, there is Rhamphorhynchus is such pterosaur that would often times walk all twos when it was necessary. Dominantly most Rhamphorhynchoid pterosaurs and other members of the Macronychoptera such as Dimorphodon all transition from biped and quadruped postures from time to time, likely possible some pterodactyl pterosaurs did follow this trend.

As for the "No known pterosaur looks like that" quote, I backing that up with the presence of Aerodactlyus and Ludodactylus, sharing the similar traits this stereotype Pteranodon shares.

1. Sharp needle-like teeth within the beak

2. A large single elongated crest located on top of the head.

3. The almost traditional human-body as seen with most pterosaurs (cause their bodies almost do have a human esq trait).

4. And the fact they are both Pterodactyl pterosaurs as the Pteranodon.

Don't be sad.

1. Birds don't have forked tongues.

2. Not true, they were already adapted to walk on 4 by the time the first true pterosaurs came around

3. Yes yes, I know Ludodactylus and Aerodactylus, but those most likely had pychnofibers, a totally different wing, different feet, the crests ARE correct but the rest isn't.

They don't really have human-esque bodies: static1.squarespace.com/static…

No that was actually meant to be a "Not impressed" face.

1. In a way they kinda do, it's far more unique though, for some species the tongue's tip is almost shaped like an arrow and some are almost completely alien if zoomed in.

2. It's does not exclude that Pterodactyl pterosaurs didn't stand on their hind legs in rare cases.

3. Did I ever mention the pyncofibers when mentioning these two pterosaurs? No...because fur on pterosaurs is a valid fact.

4. I said almost; I didn't insinuate the notion that is was completely human. Plus you take to Pteranodon more than the other pterosaurs. There are more pterosaurs, buddy don't try to save face by just referencing the one.

And last I am completely aware of the proper name, but I use "Pterodactyl" for short, because that is what a Pteranodon and pterodactyloid pterosaurs are, Pterodactyls; I find it not to describe all pterosaurs, but just as a nickname for Pterodactyloids in general e.g. Stegosauridae = Stegosaurs. No need to be triggered.

Corallianassa In reply to Asuma17 [2017-01-15 19:23:14 +0000 UTC]

1. I know that. Eagles, ducks, vultures, flamingos, all have weird tongues, but they are pointed, not extremely flexible snake-tongues

2. static1.squarespace.com/static… ;

4.bp.blogspot.com/-7B8AjP4niCM…

It wouldn't be common at all, IF they ever did it.

3. You did not, but you suggested the artwork in question resembles those, and I gave pychnofibers as one reason as to why they don't.

4. Other pterosaurs have quite similar torsos. Do I need to give you a skeletal for EVERY pterosaur? pterosaur torsos are rigid, plump and oval shaped in general.

5. How did you come to the conclusion I was triggered because I corrected you? You seem to be triggered...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Asuma17 In reply to Corallianassa [2017-01-15 21:10:52 +0000 UTC]

1. Actually the Eagles can flex and so do Ducks, what you mean is that their not like a string of spaghetti. And some birds almost have similar tongue. Don't forget that birds are reptiles too, so they would share a piece of evolutionary with their reptilian kin.

2. www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/wp-c…

Colibri bird magnified.

3.  Okay so I'll take that I did say "excluding the pyncofibers" so sue me. And second one of those references you gave don't even work.

4. Pterosaurs do have bodies almost similar to a human's *minus the pelvis* the torso is somewhat similar

5. Because you wanted to correct me about the term Pterodactyloid; you can refer Pteranodon's group by Pterodactyloid or Pterodactyl for short; it makes more sense since the word "Pterodactyl" correctly refers more to groups more closely related to Pterodactylus. It's common sense and it still is a fun to make the word "Pterodactyl" more accurate. By even having a slight pet peeve it indeed proves you had been triggered; and by accusing me of being triggered confirms this *which is hilarious*.

1. of course they can, but they are not as flexible as snake tongues

2. Colibri's are extremely specialized nectarivores

3. Oh

1. If you didn't pay close attention to the woodpecker and crow. Then you obviously your denying the facts.

2. Still a Colibri's tongue is split like a snakes.

3. Okay then...

4. That's the exact kinda stupidity I find coming from a feather-nazi.

Corallianassa In reply to Asuma17 [2017-01-16 17:46:40 +0000 UTC]

Again, woodpeckers are extremelt specialized, like hummingbirds.
Crows have pretty small tongues.

2. Yes, because it's extremely specialized to take in nectar. This has nothing to do with the piscivorous Pteranodon and Ludodactylus.

3. Yes

4. That's the exact kinda stupidity I find coming from you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Asuma17 In reply to Corallianassa [2017-01-16 23:36:04 +0000 UTC]

1. Note: Not all crows have small tongues. Also it still counts, even if it is specialized for nectar. And also Anhanguerids aren't exactly piscivorous.

2. Pal like your blank Dromaeosaur. Actually calling Pterodactyloids by inaccurate term Pterodactyl for short actually makes sense, because they are Pterodactyls by family and appearance.
