Alright-- I feel like I should talk about this, because it's been the most surprising and most uplifting ride I've ever experienced.

I'll take you guys back to summer 2016.

At that time, I was honestly just minding my business and all that jazz. I think this was around the time dA enacted that live feed pop-up function-- and I thought it was pretty interesting to see people visiting my profile in real time.

But then there was always this one username popping up for me--

Beomundi

And at first-- I didn't really think of it.
They watched me and prolly really liked my art LOL
It kept happening every so often, until I finally thought-- WHO IS THIS PERSON LOL, AND WHY THEY KEEP CHECKING ME OUT xD

I go to their profile and the first thing I see...
Is this

NOW-- You know, obviously I was quite shocked
I was at a lost of words. You can ask behemutt , I was just-- flabbergasted LOL
I decided to check their gallery, and I come to find out that they've been using my oc Bosco as a uh-- 'Model' or ref for their OC Mike.
And after a while of browsing their account... I became... Well, upset!
It's a normal response I think and I was just stewing on the fact that this was happening
and it was the first time it has ever happened to me

I gathered all the images that resembled him and made an evidence thing-- in case I needed to 'call them out'

*note: the top left was a gift for me, and I hadn't seen it until I checked their gallery!! (I think it was due to them not mentioning me or uh not telling me about it)

THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME HAVING TO DEAL WITH THIS
AND AT THE SAME TIME THO-- I really rEALLY DIDN'T WANT TO START SOME CALL OUT OR SOMETHING HHH
Soon, I managed to calm myself and noted them about it

To which they responded with:

I took out the personal parts of the note, but yEAH
I was-- taken aback because I honestly was thinking they'd be on the defensive or something
I'll admit that I was thinking too pessimistically about the situation, so I thought it was going to be just-- aWFUL SOBSS
But I was relieved that it was more like-- admiration that was just mishandled.

so I basically noted them again the next day (added their response as well!)

After that, they removed the images and we continued back and forth with notes and details
Then eventually I sent them a redesign!!
They were happy with it, and I was happy that they were hAPPY ; V ; /
Hans decided they were going to tinker and draw some stuff up and show me afterwards, which I was very okay with u v u
They recently noted me with the changes and I'm really happy with the outcome!

At this point, I've watched them now because they honestly left such an impact on me, and I want to continue to see them grow and improve!
They're so sweet and were willing to work with me on this. AND I WANT THEM TO FLOURISH AND BE AS GREAT AT ART AS THEY DESIRE TO BE AAA

with that all said, I just want to say that
If you are an artist who has their OC copied or stolen
Please, PLEASE be rational and calm about it.
I'm sure there's many peeps out there like Hans who just do it because they truly admire your work
and just-- fumble a bit when showing that admiration!
If you just straight up be rude to them from the beginning
chances are, they're going to give you that same attitude back + more LOL

If you're a young starting artist or don't have as much experience as your peers
Let me reiterate-- It's OKAY to trace or copy AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT TO YOURSELF
It's not immediately bad if you're just doing it to improve or find your style
Or build up your potential
It is bad if you take that copied art and claim it as yours or use the likeliness of someone else's character for your own character.
A lot of artists will understand if you just acknowledge what you did was wrong and learn from it!

Now-- I know there are peeps tho who legitimately act like they are the ones who created the copied/traced art and are even downright rude about it
To that I say, just don't stoop to their level.
Try to talk to them as much as you can in as much of a calm tone you can.
Only take matters into your own hands if they block you, don't stop, ignore you, etc. (then make whatever steps you need to do in order to get them to desist)
Because at least you can say you tried to be lenient-- you tried to be nice about it.

At the end of the day-- people make mistakes.
It's the ones that accept that they're wrong and improve from it that are the most mature and respectful
and that's something I for one, can really fricken admire!

My heart just swells so much seeing so much kindness on this site-- its a breath of fresh air out of the dramas of deviantARTTM
For each bad thing out there happening, there's always a genuine good that sprouts out~
And it's good things like this that really make it worth being on this site.
