Description
A new picture for the Roosterbacks.
The Roosterback is a contemporary of the Muddy Shingrabber, and is a highly successful clade of Flumpus. They are Bellybrooders, able to put laid eggs into folds on their underside, from which the eggs receive nutrients. Like a ripening fruit, they grow until they fall off and hatch shortly afterwards. They are not shelled eggs, however, and must be protected by the mother at all times. The tail can curl under the body to protect the eggs from drying out in the harsh steppe and desert. Roosterbacks can thrive here where others struggle due to its parental abilities. The only Flumpuses larger are the oceanic species, as they are the largest land Flumpuses of this era, as most in this group are pushed to rodent-like niches by the Shellaroos, who have evolved to be faster and stronger than them by being bipedal and have both lighter skeletons and can breathe in and out at the same time, like birds.
They sport large sails for display and thermoregulation and have the characteristic front facing nostril of the Bellybrooders, allowing it to smell what's in front of it, if only poorly. The Roosterback also has large horizontal pincers for biting into tough plants and is capable of digesting them due to their entire throat lined with teeth, chewing its food all the way down. They live a crepuscular lifestyle.
