Description
Turf drawing I.10” x 10” pencil on cold press water color paper
This type of drawing does not have the initial impact as Name of the Father or Occasional Angel, for me though it is very important to go back to a simpler concept once in a while.
This is part of a sires of works called “observing the insignificant” its more about natural abstraction then nature drawing although it is very carefully observed and rendered. An artist has the ability to engage someone with an image that they would normal not see and just walk by it, like this three inch piece of turf underfoot. Every day people walk by this insignificant scene , never noticing, never looking, at some point I did.

Is funny how the photo and the drawing of this can have a opposite impact.

Shades of Dürer--one of his most beautiful works was an intricate watercolor study of a piece of turf.

It is important for artists to turn away from the complex for a while and try the simple, because it's just as, if not more difficult. Thank you.

This is beautiful...you truly did what you planned to do, you made the insignificant not only noticible, but interesting and beautiful. This is the whole meaning of "stop to smell the flowers", look around you and see all the beauty you're missing..
I have to try drawing something like this, it must be a fun challenge

Photo Realism is an amazing form of art. Painting and drawing in this way is very time consuming, and I'm sure stressful. You are excellent in this genre. I don't usually see photo realism being done with pencil, but you make it look almost easy. One of the teachers from the community college I attended specializes in it. He uses mainly oils, and told me that he averages only around 2 paintings a year. His name is Anthony Brunelli, and you can see some of his amazing paintings here [link] It's sometimes hard to believe these are actually paintings, but they are...I've seen them in person.

I didn't know that anyone else besides me stares at a piece of turf and renders it, now I feel good that it isn't highly unusual. As always though, a lovely rendering.

You are still my favorite artist, and your work is as inspiring as always.
It is that quality of yours, to see through the simple things, to be able to show with your art what you see with your heart, what I find amazing.
A must

Hm, the simpler the better, right? I've always wanted to draw something small and insignificant in great detail but it looks like you beat me to it. The details are amazing like all the other piece of art you've rendered. =]

This idea reminds me of the subjects a fellow countryman of mine used to choose. He was a very poor guy who traded old cloth and scraps and such. He drew what he saw. And pretty wel he did He's got his own museum right here. He died (AD 2000) poor to because he gave most of his paintings to that museum saying, If they're not being sold, they're priceless.
check some of his work on [link]
Me personally, i like subjects others don't choose so I like this too.
Very beautyfull!

You are very right on your words, sometimes the more common thing to us is just laying there and we don't see their natural beauty. Ur work as allways amazes me and u can show that "magic" that all these well known stuff hide or should i say show? Yes 'cause we see them with our eyes but not with our mind!

Beauty is Truth. Truth is Beauty. I see both in your works. However 'simple' your subject matter, you find the beauty in the small details in ways that is awe inspiring and stunning. Once more, I bow to you.
