Trex is xiosi, so he feeds off of wayward souls to survive. No the souls aren't destroyed, they will inhabit new bodies after his time in his physical form expires. Trex is diametrically opposed to feeding off of positive souls and would rather starve than do this. Therefore he is on a diet of strictly negative, awful souls. This is the equivalent of eating nothing but junk food and stunts his growth substantially. In addition, having a steady diet of bad souls will slowly but surely strip him of all of his personality. Before this happened, Trex created two forms to preserve his personality.

Because of his young age, he cannot control more than two shape-shifts, so he created Tres (cat form) and Trez (skunk form) to preserve different aspects of his personality.

Tres received the mischievous side and because of this he became more self-aware and curious about his origins and found that he was a shape-shifted form of Trex. He managed to telepathically communicate this to Trez, though Trez is unsure if this is only his (Trez's own) imagination or not. Tres studied as much as possible about xioshi techniques and finally learned how to create his own shape-shifting form who he has named Trehhh. This way Tres can keep secrets with Trehhh that Trex cannot tap into. Trehhh cannot stay as a form for long periods of time, as it takes most of Tres' energy to conjure him up. Because he possesses secrets that Trex is not privy to, he is a bit on the cocky side and always thinks he has a leg up on the others.

New Information:

On the rare occasion when Trex was in his original form, Tres and Trez were conversing in their spirit form in the Ether and Trez learned about Trehhh. Trez felt slighted at being unable to have his own alt form and Tres explained to him how to do this. Trez being even more inept at wielding xiosi power than Tres created Treq, the ultra paranoid squirrel who is the same height as Artemis .

Alt forms, Trehhh and Treq would not be able to create their own alt forms until Trex gained a third tail, but at this point, Trex would theoretically have enough power to conjure them up at will as well. As of now

Trex can change to Tres or Trez indefinitely

Tres can change to Trez indefinitely or Trehhh for a limited time (6 hours per day is the max he can sustain this form)

Trez can change to Tres indefinitely or Treq (4 hours per day is the max he can sustain this form)

Trex cannot conjure Trehhh or Treq, nor can he access their memories or thoughts.

Trex can access Tres' and Trez' thoughts and memories but cannot influence their choices.
